I was fortunate to have been a Parkway alum, experienced 6th grade camp as a 6th grader, senior counselor, and later as a teacher. In addition, I did my student teaching at Wren Hollow and was later hired as a 5th grade teacher by Mike.

A school atmosphere is a great reflection on what the leader/principal sets. Mike was always professional, kind, as well as a gentleman.

I remember it was the end of my first year at Wren Hollow. He came up to me and “professionally” said, “Tammy, we have a student that has some behavior issues that are titled oppositional defiant. I think you’d be a great choice to be his teacher for next year.”

I responded, “thank you, Mike. Does that really mean I’m the rookie and I’m being given this task?”

He sent me to one of the best workshops that helped prepare me and view my students in a completely different light. He was always very supportive and professional when it came to our (teachers) dealings with education. That was very much the atmosphere Wren Hollow had. You wanted to do well as an educator for your students, to reflect well amongst your colleagues and collectively for Wren Hollow. It, by far, was my favorite place I taught in my teaching career. I am grateful I had the opportunity to have Mike as a mentor early in my career.

📖 Featured Book: *Flowers for Algernon*

Some books make us cry. Some make us think. This one often did both.

Students still remember the conversations about intelligence, kindness, empathy, and what it means to truly understand another person.

💙 What a night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Cerutti Family Foundation’s first-ever Trivia Night & Silent Auction!

From the trivia teams and volunteers to our incredible corporate sponsors, silent auction donors, and everyone who helped spread the word—you made our inaugural event truly spectacular.

We laughed. We competed. We may have questioned a few answers. 😉 And most importantly, we came together to support Parkway teachers and 6th grade students.

🧠 Trivia starts at 7:00 PM and wraps up around 10:00 PM

This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the individuals whose work makes a lasting impact—especially the educators who shape the future every day.

Teachers do more than teach lessons—they inspire confidence, spark curiosity, and support students through some of their most important moments of growth.

At the Cerutti Family Foundation, we’re proud to support Parkway educators through our Teacher Scholarship program, helping them continue their learning so they can keep making a difference in the classroom and beyond.

Normally I have nothing against the practice of heaping praise upon the fortunate individual who has chosen to retire. However, I know you would be embarrassed by too much positive attention, and actually I can’t think of anything particularly complimentary to say. So instead, I will resort to the bullet form of communication. This is much easier than actually forming information into coherent paragraphs. You may notice that some of these aforementioned bullets are complete sentences, some are fragments and some are somewhere in between.

- Why would anyone want to fill a perfectly good classroom with straw?
- So how come you don’t let my kids compete in LinguiSHTIK?
- It always rains when I am with you.
- A lot.
- I had “First Men” FIRST!
- Technology guru (see, that’s one of those fragmented things)
- Frank Lloyd Wright was not the nicest of individuals.
- So why did you have to bring a bed into MY classroom?
- Wrigley Field is slippery and windy on Mother’s Day.
- It’s great to travel with Barb – ok you too, but there’s more w**e and broken bones involved when the traveler is Barb.
- It’s great to eat with you too, but there’s more Mexican food and win involved when its Barb.
- Cerutti trips involve fast food.
- Do you have a shrubbery?
- Eilonwy lights the way.
- We should have won an Oscar!
- Do you have stock in Dr. Pepper? Want some?
- Cardinals, Cardinals, Cardinals!

Any by the way, Tim, you are the most amazing and talented teacher I’ve ever known. You have had such a positive influence on so many lives. Congratulations. Happy Retirement! Have you decided what you want to be when you grow up? Go for it.

💙 A Partnership That Means Something to Us

There are partnerships that make sense on paper, and then there are partnerships that are personal.

For the Cerutti Family Foundation, our partnership with Parkway School District is personal.

Our brothers, Tim and Mike Cerutti, spent a combined 30+ years teaching in Parkway. Tim was a reading and gifted teacher, and Mike was a teacher and principal. They spent their careers investing in students, supporting fellow educators, and being part of the Parkway community.

That experience shaped our family — and it shaped the Foundation we created in their honor.

Today, Parkway continues to be a district we are proud to support. According to Niche's 2026 rankings, Parkway is ranked #8 out of 453 school districts in Missouri. More than 85% of Parkway graduates continue on to college or post-secondary institutions, and more than 69% of seniors participate in AP or dual-credit courses.

Those numbers are wonderful, but what matters most to us is what they represent: teachers who care, students who are given opportunities, and a community that believes in education.

That is the part of Tim and Mike's legacy we hope to continue.

We are grateful to Parkway for the many ways it has been part of our family's story — and we're proud to continue being part of Parkway's. 💙
