Over two decades ago, Rachel stepped into this work, and PPA has never been the same. Her fiercely compassionate leadership, artistic vision, and unwavering commitment have fundamentally shaped who we are today. From directing landmark productions to advocating tirelessly for our artist-participants, her impact stretches across generations of our community.

PPA Program Coordinator Tyler White was recently the guest speaker for the graduation ceremony at Missouri Hills Youth Center!

Whether she’s leading workshops, performing on stage, or speaking to a graduating class, Tyler continually inspires and uplifts the youth we serve.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Wilcox, a longtime theatre critic, champion of the arts, and dear friend of Prison Performing Arts.

Bob shared a special connection to PPA through his late wife, our founder, Agnes Wilcox, and remained a wonderful supporter of our work and of theatre throughout St. Louis.

We are deeply grateful for all Bob gave to our theatre community. His presence, encouragement, and familiar face in the audience will be greatly missed. 💖

What happens when artists from two very different stages come together through a shared story? 💖

Prison Performing Arts was grateful to welcome artists from The Rep’s production of LITTLE WOMEN to WERDCC for an unforgettable afternoon of theatre and connection.

The Rep’s cast generously spent their day off bringing LITTLE WOMEN and sharing their work with PPA Artists. But the storytelling didn’t end there.

PPA Artists shared scenes from LITTLE WOMEN TOWN, an original piece written by PPA’s Courtney Bailey in collaboration with artists at WERDCC, offering their own creative response to the world and themes of LITTLE WOMEN.

It was a joyful exchange between artists, filled with laughter, collaboration, creativity, and a shared appreciation for what theatre can do.

Moments like these remind us that great storytelling can happen anywhere. 💖🙏

This past Friday, PPA Alumni took the stage at the St. Louis Public Radio Theatre Showcase, sharing pieces from our latest anthology, THE GOOD FRUIT: POEMS FOR THE SEASON.

A huge congratulations to Julie Antonic, Nathan Barry, Anthony Lee, Janiece Moore, and Eric Satterfield for representing Prison Performing Arts and sharing their voices with the St. Louis theatre community! 💖

THE GOOD FRUIT brings together original writing from PPA artists, and we were grateful for the opportunity to bring some of those words off the page and onto the stage.

Join us on September 25 as Prison Performing Arts takes the stage at the St. Louis Public Radio Theatre Showcase.

Members of our Alumni Theatre Company will share poetry from our newest anthology, THE GOOD FRUIT: POEMS FOR THE SEASON, a collection of original writing created through Prison Performing Arts' writing programs.

We’re excited to share voices and poems from PPA artists with the St. Louis theatre community and to join other local companies for an evening showcasing the incredible range of theatre happening across our region. 💖
