FOCE - Friends of Casa Esperanza Seven years ago, Friends of Casa Esperanza began providing food and shoes to Ngäbe children in Panama.

These Ngäbe are the poorest indigenous people in Central America. On February 14, 2020, we became FOCE, an official 501(c)(3) organization.

This year FOCE distributed 94 Easter baskets and 92 goodie bags to 5 different locations in Panama. The baskets and goodie bags were given to Ngābé children whose Pastors made sure they understood Easter was about the gift of salvation Jesus gave us when he rose from the dead after his crucifiction. The children would start lining up without ANY prompting from us before we could unload the cars. Look carefully at the pictures. Notice the dogs never move. I am learning how to be more at ease with the fact that dogs are EVERYWHERE in Panama.😂

Volunteers made REUSABLE sanitary napkins and pouches for our Ngàbe ladies in Panama. These napkins have the potential to better the Ngābé’s lives in ways we can only imagine. Thanks to each and every hardworking dedicated lady who participated in this project.

Poverty stricken women around the world lack many of the basics that we in the US take for granted. Sanitary napkins are an excellent example. What would you do if you or the females in your family could not afford the monthly expense of sanitary napkins? If you don’t have a way to dispose of them what would you do with them? What would you use instead? Would you go to school while you were on your period? Would you go to church?

Theses are the tough questions Ngābé women in and teens in Panama have to navigate every month. Their solutions are heart breaking. When they are on their period they stay home and basically sit on a towel. Most girls drop out of school by the 6th grade. Mothers don’t come to church or bring their children.

My friend Nellie told me about a product that I had NEVER heard of……REUSABLE SANITARY NAPKINS!!! Amazon sells them. Who knew??!!

It sounded like a great solution except for one thing, the cost. FOCE currently does not have the budget to purchase and ship the napkins.

GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS!!Nellie organized a team of volunteer seamstresses that made 200 napkins and pretty little pouches to carry them.

Over 60 Ngābé ladies in Panama will be receiving 3 napkins, a pouch, and 2 pairs of panties by the end of May.

Thank you Nellie and your hardworking dedicated group of seamstresses.
