While the Marine Navajo Code Talkers in the Pacific Theater are arguably the most famous, members from at least 14 other Native nations also served as Code Talkers during World War II. Despite the heroic actions of these Code Talkers during the war, recognition was slow, even after the Code Talkers program was declassified in 1968. Today, on National Code Talkers Day, we honor their incredible contributions to the United States' war effort in WWII.
