- To provide support and encouragement to organizations formed to assist heart transplant recipients and their families. The main premise is to be available to the pre and post heart transplantees and their families to answer questions about the surgery and what to expect after surgery. Bi monthly support meetings provide educational information about medications, after effects of the surgery, recovery issues, the recovery process, etc. Mentors visit pre and post heart transplantees and their families to answer questions about the surgery. The trained mentors visit in pairs, a transplantee and his or her caregiver. Those mentors provide a tremendous service to the new transplantee and his or her family.
