Veterans Community Project of St. Louis

Veterans Community Project of St. Louis Veterans Community of St. Louis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fixing Veteran homelessness. Louis metro area regardless of discharge status.

OUR MISSION: Veterans housing Veterans, armed with the strength and support of the community. Veterans Community Project (VCP) serves all Veterans in the St. The VCP Outreach Center assists Veterans with housing, emergency assistance, military identification services, food, employment supports, and a host of other needs. The VCP Village is a specialized community of 50 tiny homes with on-site, wra

paround support services designed to equip Veterans with the tools needed to return to a stable, independent life. With the support of their case managers and Veteran neighbors, each resident works to achieve incremental, lasting results in the areas of health and wellness, income stability, education and job training, fiscal understanding, and the development of a personal support network. Once the Veteran's individual goals are met, VCP assists him or her in transitioning to a permanent housing solution.

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with InExcelsis and their Dignity On Wheels mobile shower program.

Starting Tuesday, June 9th, we will be hosting this incredible program at Veterans Community Project of Saint Louis every first Tuesday of the month, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, through October 2026.

Dignity on Wheels provides Veterans with private shower stalls, hygiene supplies, and clean clothes; because every Veteran deserves to feel seen and cared for.

Please share this with any Veterans or Veteran service providers who may benefit! We would like to spread the word.

It should come as no surprise that a group of Realtors knows what it takes to get people into houses.

Thank you to St. Louis REALTORS for putting in the work this week at VCP of St. Louis to help build the second phase of tiny homes in our Village.

Because of you, we are one step closer to welcoming more St. Louis Veterans into the healing, stability, and dignity of home.

Today, on , we are reflecting on the incredible impact that you have had on our St. Louis Veterans. Since we opened our tiny home Village and Outreach Center in 2023, your compassion has helped hundreds of Veterans regain the stability and dignity of home.

Earlier this week, your generosity was on display at our Spring into Action event. We were honored to unveil the new donor wall and tiny home sponsor signage, which are permanent tributes to the community that makes this possible. We also invited friends to sign the interior framing of our newest tiny homes. These silent messages, like “Welcome home” and “We love you,” will literally surround future residents with your support.

Now as we look ahead, the momentum you have built is vital—because the mission is not finished. We are currently in the second phase of construction, adding 16 tiny homes to the 20 already standing. A third phase of 14 homes will follow, completing our 50-home Village.

Your support will open these doors, just as it has for the Veterans who have already transformed their lives here over the past two years. Whether you make a gift today for or choose to get involved in another meaningful way, please know how much your belief in our Veterans means to us.

Thank you, St. Louis, for standing with this mission.

Together, we are fixing Veteran homelessness.

Community is at the heart of everything we do at VCP of St. Louis, and today we want to shine a bright light on one of our most dedicated partners: Wash U's Heart for the Unhoused.

Led by Lauren, this incredible group of students from Washington University in St. Louis has been working alongside us for over a year. Their commitment to our Veterans is nothing short of inspiring. Whether they are showing up every Friday to help with construction and housing projects or maintaining the Village grounds, they do it all with a genuine smile and a passion for service.

Their impact goes far beyond physical labor. Over the past year, Heart for the Unhoused has:

-Provided over $200 in bus cards to ensure our Veterans can reach medical appointments, job interviews, and work.

-Donated more than $500 worth of food to sustain our outreach efforts and support Veterans in need.

-Assembled and delivered over 100 winter kits filled with essentials to keep our heroes warm during the coldest months.

To Lauren and the entire Heart for the Unhoused team: thank you for your tireless work and for being such a vital part of our mission to fix Veteran homelessness. We are so proud to partner with you!

At VCP, we aim to serve every Veteran regardless of their discharge status, time in service, or branch. Those words take on a much deeper meaning when you look at the journey of John and Theresa. They are a local couple who joined us at VCP of St. Louis right at the very beginning, driven by a heartbreak that no parent should ever have to carry. Their National Guardsman son, Johnny, was a Veteran who needed the kind of care and support that he unfortunately could not access due to benefit eligibility. In memory and honor of their son, John and Theresa decided to build a legacy that would ensure no other Veteran fell through those same cracks.

Since the very start of our St. Louis Village, they have been a vital part of our mission. Theresa has been a staple in our outreach efforts every single Tuesday, and John has been out there in the dirt and the sawdust, working construction to physically build the Village from the ground up. They are the kind of people who do not just talk about the vision; they live it. Their entire community rallied behind the cause, throwing two massive fundraisers and raising over $100,000 to support VCP, with $50,000 of that specifically dedicated to sponsoring a home in Johnny’s honor.

That home is now complete, and today was a milestone that felt like a long-awaited exhale. A Veteran who was street homeless became the first resident of Johnny’s House. This morning, John, Theresa, and their community were on-site, personally staging and preparing the home to make sure it felt like a sanctuary. When we asked Theresa what it meant to finally welcome a Veteran into this space, she told us they felt "ecstatic". She mentioned that they are simply part of a team that makes up the "heart" of this project, alongside all the core volunteers, the VCP staff, and the dear family and friends who have been on this journey with them.

While her son needed the help VCP offers, she said it makes her so proud to know another Veteran is actually standing there receiving it. She sees Johnny in every Veteran we serve, because at the end of the day, he was one of them.

This move-in is more than just providing a roof. It is the start of a brand-new journey for a Veteran who has been through so much, and he is walking into a home filled with the love of a community who has his back. Theresa’s message for him is simple: "always remember to keep moving forward, and know that VCP is standing right behind you"

We are honored to walk this path with our new resident, and we are forever grateful to John and Theresa for turning their love for Johnny into a foundation for a Veterans future.
