I am truly heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dr. Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute. Just recently, I was sharing his remarkable legacy with one of my coworkers.

I had the honor and privilege of traveling to Harlem, New York, to meet one of the finest human beings—Dr. Harold P. Freeman. I am where I am today, in part, because of this extraordinary man and the path he created for Patient Navigators like me.

Known as the Father of Patient Navigation, Dr. Freeman pioneered the patient navigation model to help individuals overcome barriers to cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment. His visionary work transformed the way healthcare systems support patients and their families—especially those in medically underserved communities.

Through his teachings and example, I came to truly understand the purpose and importance of Patient Navigation. I knew then that I was doing more than just a job—I was fulfilling a purpose worth waking up for every morning.

Dr. Freeman’s legacy will continue to live through every Patient Navigator who advocates, educates, removes barriers, and walks alongside patients throughout their healthcare journey.

Rest well, Dr. Harold P. Freeman. Thank you for paving the way and showing us what compassionate, patient-centered care should look like. Your work changed healthcare, transformed countless lives, and forever changed mine. 🕊️❤️
