Girls wrestling remains one of the fastest-growing high school sports in America, but girls flag football has now grown even faster. According to 2025–26 participation figures, girls flag football jumped from 15,716 athletes in 2021–22 to 102,360, a massive 551% increase.

Girls wrestling also continued its historic rise, growing from 31,654 participants to 88,771 over the same four-year span — an increase of about 180%. In just one year, participation climbed from 74,064 to 88,771, showing that the sport is still expanding at a rapid pace.

The number of high schools sponsoring girls wrestling also increased from 4,802 to 8,853, while all 50 states now report girls wrestling participation. Even with flag football growing faster, girls wrestling has firmly established itself as one of the biggest success stories in high school sports.

Below is the current list of teams participating in the Wonder Women Rookie IV Tournament November 21, at St. Charles High School. We have a couple more openings if you think this tournament is for you. The tournament is open to any high school wrestler 9-12 that has never competed in a high school match (must come with a team). This tournament is designed to give the new wrestlers an equal competition field and give them a positive experience in thier first ever competition. Location: St. Charles High School, 725 N Kingshighway St, Saint Charles, MO 63301

Date: Saturday, November 21, 2026

Weigh-ins: 7:30 AM

Weight Classes: 100,105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 155, 170, 190, 235

Wrestling Starts: 9:00 AM

Awards: Mini Championship belt to the winner of each weight class. Plaques awarded for 2nd-4th place. Team plaques 1st-4th place

Entry Fee: Team fee of $300 will apply. Make Check Payable to Wonder Women of Wrestling Foundation (WWOWF). Please have entry fee money sent to Mike Wakim (WWOWF) 5522 Tennessee Ave, St. Louis Missouri, 63111. Please have checks sent by November 18, 2026, or have a check in hand the day of competition, unless other arrangements have been agreed to.

Admission: $7

Concessions: Full concessions will be available all day.

Girls high school wrestling continues to explode across the country. Participation reached a record 88,771 athletes during the 2025–26 season, a 19.9% increase in just one year, while 8,853 schools now sponsor the sport. Since 2021–22, participation has grown from 31,654 to 88,771, showing just how quickly girls wrestling has become one of the fastest-growing high school sports in America.

THE MOMENT WASN’T TOO BIG FOR ANGIE BEREUTER‼️

Missouri’s 235-pound hammer just made a statement to the entire country.

Representing Team Missouri at Junior National Duals, Angie Bereuter stepped onto the mat in one of the most anticipated heavyweight matchups of the tournament. Across from her stood Deionna Borders, the nation’s #1 ranked wrestler at 235 pounds and a 2x Fargo Finalist.

And Angie didn’t blink.

This wasn’t a fluke. It wasn’t a scramble that went her way. It wasn’t a lucky bounce.

This was two elite heavyweights standing toe-to-toe and trading blows for six minutes.

The match was a battle from the opening whistle. Score after score. Momentum swings. Counterattacks. Neither wrestler willing to give an inch.

Then came the moment.

With the match hanging in the balance, Bereuter exploded for a massive 4-point throw in the second period, turning the tide and proving she belonged on the biggest stage against the best competition in America.

Borders would find one final takedown late, but it wasn’t enough.

Angie Bereuter. Missouri’s 235. Missouri Impact athlete.

Defeated the nation’s #1 ranked wrestler, 10-7.

For those who have been paying attention, this isn’t a surprise. Angie has been steadily climbing, improving, and closing the gap on the nation’s elite. The difference now?

The gap is gone.

The rest of the country just got introduced to what Missouri already knew.
