Support Detroit Transit

Support Detroit Transit TRU is a nonprofit that advocates for better public transit throughout the Detroit region. We need your help to make it happen.

Greater Detroit needs more and better public transit, to restore urban vitality, connect people to jobs, improve quality of life, and boost our economy. This page is hosted by Transportation Riders United (TRU) - the Detroit area's leading nonprofit transit advocacy group. With our partners and allies, TRU is working to improve bus service and break down barriers

to developing real rapid transit in greater Detroit, just like every other major city has. We support development of rapid transit on Woodward, improved DDOT bus service, expanded SMART bus service, commuter trains linking Detroit with Metro Airport and Ann Arbor, high speed rail linking Detroit and Chicago, and much more! Far too many politicians ignore the facts and the support of their constituents and refuse to fully fund public transit. Together we'll shake up the politicians to improve regional cooperation and increase transit investment to develop the world-class transit system greater Detroit needs and deserves!

Thanks to Council Member Gabriela Santiago-Romero - District 6 and her colleagues for urging MDOT to right-size a deadly stretch of Fort Street.

So many major Detroit streets are over-sized for the amount of traffic they currently carry. "Road diets" are a proven method to reduce speeding and improve safety for everyone.

Diane Cross, a spokesperson for MDOT, confirmed in a Tuesday email that MDOT “is doing a feasibility study of Fort St. north of Outer Drive.”

A judge has dismissed the lawsuit brought by the anti-transit "Not SMART" group, which has been trying to stop a public vote on the Connect Wayne County transit expansion proposal.

"Plaintiffs have failed to demonstrate a likelihood of success on the merits with respect to any of their allegations," the judge ruled.

The proposal now moves to the August primary election ballot. We're hopeful about its chances for success, but we're not leaving anything to chance! Click the link in the comments to get involved with the campaign!

A group of Wayne County residents challenged a transit millage saying officials were not transparent. Here's what a judge had to say about it.
