Squires Volunteer Fire Department

On Saturday October 10th, Squires Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a tractor fire on county road 328. Upon arrival, crews found a fully engulfed tractor and a small brush fire. The tractor was unfortunately a complete loss, but a brush hog was saved. The brush fire was quickly extinguished. Once again, due to the heat and dry, crews are careful that no smoldering embers are left to cause a later problem.

On Friday October 9th, Squires Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire on county road 321. A small fire of unknown origin was burning in pasture and woods. Even small fires are taxing to handle in the hot weather. We were grateful for assistance from our friends at Ava Rural Fire Department and City of Ava Fire Department -Missouri! We appreciate the teamwork! Despite the weather, the fire was quickly contained. Due to the drought conditions, we are careful to ensure fires are fully contained before departing. This takes a lot of time and effort from the crews, but it's important for everyone's safety.

Happy Birthday to firefighter, Jana Wybo!

This fire was on a very hot day, making firefighting efforts exhausting.

We would like to thank the following businesses who donated food and drinks on Saturday , September 19th.

- Walmart Ava for donating sports drinks for a very thirsty crew
- Casey's North for pizza, ice and water
- Casey's South for pizza, ice and water
- Ava Sonic Drive-In for burgers.

As you might imagine, after quite a number of hours of fighting fires, the crews were famished. The food was devoured!

Thank you to City of Ava Fire Department -Missouri Chief Danial Baldwin and crew for arranging all this and delivering it.

Also a big thank you to some individuals who stopped by offering water.

Thank you. We appreciate you all!!
