The Chamber has decided not to hold its ice cream making contest on July 4 to show its support for the Spur Senior Center Bake Sale July 3. If you were planning on making ice cream, perhaps you can show your community support by making a dessert to donate to the Senior Center Bake Sale.
Plus it gives you more time to decorate your pickup, ATV, bicycle, riding mower, dog, goat, motorcycle, tricycle, etc. for the Fourth on Burlington 4th of July Parade!

The Spur Area Chamber of Commerce is finalizing plans for our county’s July 4 Celebration in Rickels Park. Events will start with a 10 a.m. car parade on Burlington Avenue and continue with family-friendly activities, games, food, and patriotic/veterans observances in Rickels Park through early afternoon.
There will be hot dog and hamburger meals for only $5.
And there will be a homemade ice cream making contest.
The Palace Theater will be open Saturday, July 4,
to collect families’ history submissions for the updated county history. A form will be made available in advance via the newspaper, social media, and otheroutlets. Digital scanners will be made available next door at The Texas Spur for use in scanning photos and documents. The Palace Theater has also been working with former Spur resident Dr. E. Don Williams, theatre
professor at LCU, in crafting a West Texas history pageant, “The Promise of the Plains,” a portion of which we hope to premiere at the July 4 celebration.

Mark your calendars. "Meet the Candidates" for candidates in contested races in Dickens County will be held Thursday, Feb. 26 at the library at 6:00 p.m.
