Spending time at Mitchell County Shepherd's Staff, Inc. was a powerful reminder of what community truly looks like in action.

This team shows up day in and day out to make sure families in Mitchell County have access to food, support, and care. Shepard Staff provides pantry staples, fresh produce from TRACTOR Food and Farms and delivers meals through their prepared meals program. Their impact reaches far beyond what you see on the surface.

Our AMY staff was grateful for the opportunity to volunteer alongside them, lend a hand, and witness firsthand the heart behind their work.

If you’re looking for a way to give back, consider donating or volunteering with Shepherd’s Staff, your support makes a real difference. 💛

This home is almost finished!! 🏠💚

Built by students in the Construction Trades CTE Program at Mountain Heritage High School, this project is getting closer every day to becoming a safe, permanent home for someone in our community.

Soon, the resident will be able to move out of her camper and into a place of her own.

Through AMY’s Fall Grant Cycle, we were proud to support Yancey County Schools by helping fund some of the materials for this home build.

With the continued work of Rebuilding Hollers , the final phase is underway and we’re excited to see it come fully to life.

To our donors, thank you for being part of this. Your support is creating real, lasting impact right here in our community.

Hurricane Helene tore through the mountains of Western North Carolina with a force few had ever witnessed. Rivers overflowed, bridges gave way, and roads that had connected remote communities for generations suddenly disappeared. For the people of Bee Log, a close-knit community along the Cane River in Yancey County, the storm brought more than destruction. It brought isolation.

What began as an emergency response soon grew into something much more. The Bee Log Community Relief Center became a lifeline for neighbors who suddenly had nowhere else to turn.

Today, nearly two years later, access to the community is still limited. Half of the main road remains closed. The sense of isolation hasn’t gone away, and neither has the need.

Three days a week, the Bee Log Community Relief Center opens its doors to serve 45 families. They provide free groceries, hygiene products, first aid supplies, clothing, and essential home goods.

This work is carried out by a small but dedicated team of five people, three staff members and two volunteers, who continue to show up week after week to support their neighbors and ensure no one is left behind.

AMY Wellness Foundation is proud to help sustain the center’s ongoing work, ensuring that families in Bee Log continue to have access to essential resources as the community rebuilds and recovers.

How You Can Help

The Bee Log Community & Relief Center depends on the support of others. Donations of supplies, volunteer time, and simply sharing their story all make a difference. While the storm has passed, the needs it created are still very real for families along the Cane River.
