🚨 MID-MORNING SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE – FRIENDSHIP VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT 🚨
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) continues to maintain an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather across portions of Central and Southwest Alabama. This includes areas such as:
Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Sylacauga, Clanton, Brent, Greensboro, Demopolis, Eutaw, York, Butler, and Aliceville.
A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) remains in place for much of the northern two-thirds of the state, while a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) extends as far south as Mobile and Dothan.
⚠️ Primary Concerns for Today:
* Severe storms may begin developing across northern and western Alabama as early as 1:00 PM
* The greatest tornado threat remains across the Enhanced Risk areas through this afternoon and tonight
* Storms may also produce:
* Large hail
* Damaging straight-line winds
* Torrential rainfall
🌧️ Flooding Concerns:
These storms are expected to produce heavy rainfall in a short period of time, increasing the risk for flash flooding, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for much of Central Alabama.

* Ensure you have multiple reliable ways to receive severe weather warnings
* Have your phone charged and emergency alerts enabled
* If you live in a mobile home, identify your nearest storm shelter or sturdy structure now
* Make transportation plans in advance if relocation becomes necessary
* Avoid driving through flooded roadways
🌙 Overnight Outlook:
Storms are expected to gradually weaken after midnight as they move southward, but a lower-end severe weather threat may continue into the early morning hours.

* Northern Alabama should remain mostly dry
* Rain will gradually end in southeastern areas by mid-afternoon
* Cooler temperatures are expected, with highs in the low to mid-70s
