It will be held next Sunday, April 19th @ 4 PM at Jeff and Dee Hardy’s residence. (See the group text for the address and contact info to confirm your attendance so that they will have enough tables and chairs).

This will be a Garden Social and potluck under the oak trees (weather permitting). Finger sandwiches (some gluten free), iced tea and lemonade will be provided.

Sign up for finger desserts and snacks/sides. Feel free to bring a beverage of choice if you’d like something different.

Good morning Bees and Seeds! Here is a message from Dee:

I hope you are all enjoying this spring weather and living on your gardens.

After talking to some members it appears March is a good month to skip a meeting and focus on our gardens.
There will be no meeting this month.

I am working on a garden party/potluck for Sunday April 19th. (This is a corrected post, original message said Saturday April 18th, but that is the same day as the Jackass Mail Run). Please Mark your calendars. More details to come.

Don't forget to share photos and tips from the garden this month. It doesn't matter if it's the pot in your windowsill or 2 acres of harvest. It is all joy! Happy path to Spring. 🌹 🌼 🌺

Some good ideas for square foot gardening companion planting.

Square foot gardening is one of the most efficient ways to turn a small area into a productive food garden. By pairing compatible crops inside a simple grid, you can harvest more from each square while reducing pest issues and wasted space.

High-Yield Square Foot Combinations

• Tomato + Basil Square
Place one tomato plant in the center with four basil plants in the corners. Basil improves airflow, saves space, and supports healthy tomato growth.

• Carrot + Onion Pairing
Use one square for sixteen carrots and the next for nine onions. The strong scent of onions helps confuse pests that target carrot roots.

• Lettuce + Radish Mix
Plant nine lettuce heads and slip radishes between them. Radishes mature quickly, freeing up space as lettuce begins to fill out.

• Beans + Pepper Companion Bed
Grow eight pole or bush beans in one square and a pepper plant in the next. Beans enrich the soil, giving peppers a nutrient boost.

• Spinach + Strawberry Block
Nine spinach plants grow fast and are ready to harvest before four strawberry plants begin spreading into the space.

• Cucumber + Dill Combo
Train two cucumbers up a trellis in one square and plant nine dill in the adjacent one. Dill attracts beneficial insects that help protect cucumbers.

• Beets + Chives Arrangement
One square can hold nine beets, while sixteen chives in the next create a natural pest barrier around the root crops.

• Kale + Garlic Protection Grid
Place one kale plant in the center and surround it with nine garlic cloves. Garlic’s scent helps deter common kale pests.

• Chard + Bush Bean Duo
Four chard plants share nutrients well with nine bush beans in the neighboring square, creating a balanced and productive pairing.

A simple 4×4 square foot layout can function as a complete kitchen garden—efficient, organized, and surprisingly productive.
