Timberline NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) is entirely run by a Staff of youth that range from 14 to 18 years in age. Scouting is a boy-led program, and this helps put the "boy" more strongly in charge. The course is directed by a staff of youth leaders and instructors who work closely with their adult advisers, they start training for this course in January each year. The youth staff tr
ains, teaches, and provides service and support to the younger Scouts that attend Timberline. The scouts attending Timberline and their patrols get an opportunity to practice and experience leadership skills first-hand. These skills are taught by instruction, and personal example, by the youth staff, as they use the patrol method during the week, to run the Timberline course. The skills learned during the course also help prepare Scouts for a mission, fatherhood, and a lifetime of leadership roles. We look for new staff members at the end of each year, since we have several boys applying, and a limited number of positions a trend as developed where boys wanting to be on staff have attended Timberline twice. They gain an additional year of Timberline experience and knowledge that gives them an edge when applying for a staff position.
