Important Notice!

Just a reminder, if you plan on coming to the Bluebonnet Horse Expo and Rescue Horse Training Challenge, this Saturday October 4th the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas, dogs are not allowed.

Now we love dogs. And I want to pet All the Dogs. BUT our insurance company said no to dogs, and insurance is important, so we must ask you to leave your adorably furry friend at home. And make sure to tell them how sorry I am that I won't get to see them!

Y’all are doing awesome! I’ve been watching the progress since the start and she’s doing great! Love seeing this!

Today, we worked on the saddle and taking it off. This is his second time I’ve fully put a saddle pad, saddle and girth on. He doesn’t mind it going on and being taken off but he’s very reluctant to walk off with it on.

He is very food motivated so I rewarded him when he sniffed the girth as the first time I did it he tensed up quite the bit so his calmness and a more relaxed body language I thought deserved a reward. I also rewarded him after the tack up as last time as he was reluctant move his body (head, feet, neck, ears. Like a freeze spook).

Next time I will be bringing out a half pad as he doesn’t have too much muscle around his withers and back yet. Little extra comfort for The Huntsman! I could probably put the saddle back a little as it looks very on his shoulder in the video lol. I won’t be riding him yet as I’m still trying to put a bit more weight on him first but he did absolutely amazing for this go around for the saddle up! (Cue my morning hair and PJ’s)

Recently I was reminded that y’all are really wanting to hear and learn more about this boy. A lot of people have been growing their farm stead’s lately and a bunch of people have all sorts of animals! So here are a couple questions with answers!

Q:Who does your challenge horse hang out with?
A: He is low on the herd totem so we have him separated from the other horses but he can still interact. Once a week we put some of our more chill mares out with him and boy he loves good company!

Q:Who have they been introduced to?
A: so far not many animals or people but he does great with the other horses when they don’t pick on him and he doesn’t mind a loud, obnoxious dog (or 5 lol). Besides that he’s been great with the many people and even the occasional cat and the random herd of deer that run through our property. This boy is broke broke lol. I’m sure goats, ducks or whatever you have won’t faze this boy. Not even the cow birds cause him to look up from his food

Q:Who does your horse prefer not to chill out with?
A: so far, nothing. He is a social butterfly and even asks for some pets from random strangers he’s never met! We’ve kept giving him good experiences so we haven’t found anything he won’t chill out with!

Q:Where does your challenge horse hang out when not working with you?
A: he is given free roam of 8ish acres to himself when not working with me. He runs around and eats all day and when I’m going out to feed or work with him he will sprint from the other side of the property to where I am just so he doesn’t miss anything.

This boy loves carrots and has a FOMO personality but he isn’t buddy sour. Just wants to be with you making sure you’re not doing anything that will hurt you!

We've assigned over 65 horses to Training Challenge applicants and have been able to take in horses from two different rescues and from a couple of donors we might not have been able to help. So that's helping more horses and plenty of horses for you to follow on Facebook and meet at the Expo!

The stressful news is that we only have one sponsor so far (a big thank you to Mary and Texas Ranch Specialist for being our first sponsor!). and only one vendor so far (thank you Linda and KIS Accessories for being our first vendor!).

It Bluebonnet's 20th year of operations, and that's a huge thing! I want to celebrate that with an amazing Expo. I really love the Expo – not only are we raising money for a good cause, but there are so many educational opportunities, so much shopping, and gorgeous horses to meet. Plus we get to see friends we haven't seen in a year or more and make new ones.. It really is an amazing day, and I hope you can help us make it the best one yet.

So how can you help the horses (and as a side-benefit also help stop my panic attack)?

The easiest thing you can do is help us spread the word. more people who attend, the better the event we’ll have. And helping like this is free – and anyone can do it, you don’t have to be in Texas!

We also need both sponsors and donors. Sponsors help cover the cost of putting on the event so that all money raised during the event can go to helping horses, and donations are used to help care for the horses need us. You can learn more about both sponsorship and donations at [https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/sponsors/](https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/sponsors/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExNk45U0xQNU9kYldpSTczdwEe_S8b5OSdn4JFdxZOeAMd3IOLEamE-DUAIO82okgCLK2zLw-j5O2BMeXzOMc_aem_6wmmx_yDT9QtyNwb0UYcUg). Sponsors and donors don't need to be in Texas, either, so if you can't sponsor or donate - spread the word. You never know who you might reach.

We also need vendors. Vendors are in the climate controlled vendor hall right past the entrance: we try to funnel every attendee through the vendor hall so they’ll see your products and/or services. Vendor spaces are 10x10 and are just $75. You can learn more at [https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/vendors/](https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/vendors/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExNk45U0xQNU9kYldpSTczdwEeFTgHXoE7Jp8ieOEo8YgLdieRuRgbY_w5zisMeJ6843gyrETNOZ2O_LzFMOg_aem_nbSMXNf2T2o00ln_aDUKXQ)

If you have any questions about sponsoring, donating, being a vendor, or helping out with the Expo in another way, please just let me know. I would love to have you (yes, you!) become part of the Expo community.

After countless attempts and different methods, he is finally loading with me. Took a bit of grain and a hay bag but finally loaded with me today! That’s a massive step forward for this dude as he wouldn’t load *at all* unless grain bribed and you left the pen a month or so ago!

Very proud of this big boys progress!!

The big boy got his feetsies done and is displaying it by how good he feels which I’ll show in the next post. He wasn’t acting up and stood like a good boy for the farrier. Farrier said his feet look great!

Hello everyone! Now it’s time to introduce The Huntsman!
The Huntsman Aka Hunter, is a biiigggg 16.3hh thoroughbred gelding! He has all the puppy dog demeanor you can fit in this tall guy. He’ll whinny when he see’s us and is the first to greet me by the pasture gate and, like a gentleman, es**rt me to the barn for morning nummies.

This fine boy is a lower on the totem pole kind of guy, but don’t be fooled, he’ll pick up his feet in a dead gallop out in the fields. So far he stands perfectly for the Vet, Farrier and has even recently been seen by the dentist and did great (even though he is surely a lightweight).

This boy wears teal better than any other horse I’ve seen wear it. But let’s be honest, he’ll never have you feeling blue 😉. He is a very honest gentleman but loves his scratches a little too much so he’ll really leaaaann into you when he scratches his head on you. We are working on loading but we’re coming around. We’re getting him a ramp so maybe he will be more comfortable while learning.

So far he halters, leads, walks both directions on the lunge line and picks up his feet nicely. He doesn’t mind a bath and won’t try to break your crossties. Hunter loves alfalfa but grazes on fresh coastal grass all day long like an equine lawn mower. He’s never given me any worry about acting out. He’s always a polite gentleman on the ground and I’ve yet to ride him. He has never tested the fence and is always polite to the neighbors. He’s okay with dogs as far as we’ve seen as well.

Hunter was previously a pasture pet who came from a Hunter/Jumper barn. He also has a tattoo on his upper lip that I have yet to decode so I believe he raced at one point. The dentist aged him at 16-17 while we were told he was 10-13 so, if we’re honest, I’ve got no clue how old this boy truly is.

While I am still learning and so is he, I believe he will make the perfect horse for the perfect person. He’s truly a sweet, honest boy who has a “we know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two” mentality. I cannot wait to see him get some more weight on and truly fill out and blossom and show with me in this years expo!
