Military Order of the Purple Heart, USA Welcome to the Official page of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), where we honor and support America's combat wounded veterans.

MOPH has a number of national programs to help our member as well as all veterans and their families without discrimination of branch of service or era of service to our country. Veteran Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS)
1. The Hallmark of MOPH is our National VAVS program. We service our veterans throughout the VA Health care system and in State Veteran Homes. We have volunteers in over 100 VAMCs

and clinics across the country. We have Patriot members on the local VAVS committee in over 77 VA facilities. The MOPH Service Foundation provides funds in the form of grants to assist in obtaining clothing, personal hygiene items and allowing our members to take these veterans on outings like ball games, movies, and picnics.
2. MOPH has volunteers donating their hours in most local communities, one way or another to bring joy into these veterans’ lives. In the fiscal year 2014, MOPH donated more than 160,031 hours which was equal to more than $3,608,699 in savings for the VA Health Care System. The MOPH plays a very active role as a voting member of the DVAs' National Advisory Committee. This committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Under Secretary for Health to improve the VAVS program.
3. Over the past 7 years, the MOPH, through its National VAVS program, has given nearly $50,000 in scholarships, rewarding those wonderful young American student volunteers. Americanism
1. MOPH provides materials and Member volunteers to visit classrooms and civic organizations nationwide wherein our Members tell of their experiences in the US Armed Forces, providing historical perspective to world events.
2. Employment opportunities for veterans are made through our association with State and Federal Job Fairs and Programs. In conjunction with the VA, the Department of Labor and the Small Business Administration, MOPH support has led to the hiring of numerous OIF/OEF Veterans.
3. In 2014 we received 355 scholarship applications. Three hundred-twenty (320) met all requirements and were forwarded to the Scholarship Committee. The Committee awarded eighty-three (83), $3,000 scholarships totaling $249,000. Twenty (20) scholarships were awarded to MOPH members, five (5) to spouses of MOPH members, and fifty-eight (58) to lineal descendants of MOPH members. In addition, MOPH Scholarship winner Austin Howard was awarded the 2014 Lieutenant Michael P Murphy US Navy Seal Scholarship ($2,000) funded by Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy USN, Memorial Scholarship Foundation of Riverhead, New York. Legislative
1. MOPH maintains a constant presence on Capitol Hill voicing its position on numerous legislative issues concerning veterans and the military. MOPH maintains membership in many veterans’ coalitions to help bring forth a united stance on important legislative issues.
2. MOPH has been the lead Veterans’ Organization on several legislative issues; one most notable has been the DoD regulation awarding the Purple Heart to POWs who have died in captivity. We are now mobilizing to get the Purple Heart Protection Act supported and passed.

We Have To Pick Up George In Virginia On The Way Down To New Bern

Greetings Patriots,
The 93rd Annual MOPH National Convention will be upon us before you know it. The
Convention this year is going to be held at the Waterfront Convention Center located
in New Bern, North Carolina July 13th thru July 17th ....
There is 1 thing that I ask our Chapter members to think about since
this is your Organization, we want to hear from you and your opinions, or anything you may
want to get an answer to at the convention.

Will you be there at the Convention .....

#1: If anyone, be it a regular member or an Associate member, has any questions that
need to be addressed on the Regional or National Level, please put it into an email
to your Commanders before June 30th. The hot topic nationally with Regions, the Departments and
Chapter members is the MOPH website, that situation is currently being addressed,
and I am sure will be brought up again at the Convention.

Thank you in advance, Lets make this one of the best events of the year

BUDDY CHECK WEDNESDAY

Volunteers and friends conducting buddy checks can recognize changes in mood, behavior, or circumstances that might signal distress, such as withdrawal from social activities, expressions of hopelessness or helplessness, changes in sleeping or eating patterns, giving away possessions, or sudden calmness after depression.
Buddy checks normalize conversations about mental health and help-seeking, breaking down the stigma associated with these issues. They empower veterans to ask for help by demonstrating that care is abundant and accessible.
1. Keep your contact records updated
2. Request and keep a list of your members next of kin’s information
3. Keep a list of local resources ready in case needed
4. Make checking up on each other a normal routine
Buddy checks are seamless, with veterans confirming contact details, health status, or changes in circumstances. This ongoing maintenance ensures no one is overlooked.

On June 8th we remember Sharon Ann Lane

One of the special ladies (ER Angels) in the above link is highly honored and respected by Vietnam combat veteran’s and the ER Angels that served with her.
When the city of Canton, Ohio enters a conversation many minds focus on the NFL Hall of Fame. Several years ago I visited the NFL Hall of Fame, but I went to Canton, Ohio primarily for a far different reason. I went to honor and remember Sharon Ann Lane at her final resting place.
Among the several females that died in Vietnam, “Sharon Ann Lane” was the only American female soldier to be killed because of direct enemy action during the Vietnam War. Sharon was killed at the start of her prime years of life after being in Vietnam for only 41 days. She was killed on “June 8,” 1969 at the age of 25 while serving her nation as a “Combat Zone” nurse and taking care of the wounded. Her name is on panel 23W, Line 112 of the Vietnam Memorial in our nations capitol. Sharon Lane was buried at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton, Ohio.
