Town of Springfield Housing Authority Announces Proposal for Market-Rate Housing Development on Southridge Street
Springfield, Vermont
The Town of Springfield Housing Authority is excited to announce its proposal for the development of market-rate homes on Southridge Street, pending approval by the voters of Springfield.
The proposal involves the transfer of approximately 0.9 acres of land owned by the Springfield School District to the Housing Authority. This request comes in response to the ongoing housing shortage and aims to grow the grand list by creating a community of 18 market-rate homes.
The land in question is located off Southridge Street and is identified by Parcel ID 29-2-73.
The decision will be put to a vote on Town Meeting Day, March 4, 2025. The ballot article reads as follows:
“Shall the Springfield School District convey its 0.9 plus or minus acre parcel of land located off Southridge Street in Springfield, Vermont bearing Parcel ID 29-2-73 to the Springfield Housing Authority for use in connection with developing market rate housing to grow the grand list and ameliorate the housing shortage.”
The Springfield Housing Authority plans to combine this land with a parcel it already owns to develop a community of 18 new homes. Voters are encouraged to support this initiative to help alleviate the housing shortage and expand the housing options in Springfield by voting “yes” on the ballot article.
Why This Matters

Quote from the Springfield Housing Authority: “We believe this project is a significant step forward in addressing the housing needs of our community and providing a sustainable solution that benefits all residents of Springfield. We urge voters to support this initiative on March 4, 2025.”
