Four students. Four different paths. One shared goal: a career in healthcare. 💙

The Alliance for Healthcare Education is a partnership between CoxHealth, Missouri State University, Ozarks Technical Community College and Springfield Public Schools, Springfield, MO. The goal? Guiding students from the classroom into healthcare careers. High schoolers can start earning credits early, and students at any stage can get hands-on experience along the way.

Meet a few of the students learning at The Alliance:

🩺 Ayden Spotila of Bolivar found her calling while working at a long-term care facility. She’s now studying nursing through Missouri State and hopes to work in the emergency department, med-surg or the ICU.

🦴 Rachael Broniec spent years in orthopedic clinics as a gymnast and soccer player, and she fell in love with the science behind it. Now she’s in Ozarks Tech’s radiography program, training on state-of-the-art imaging equipment. “It has helped me feel more confident in my skills,” she said.

📷 Jaydn Wohlhart came from Illinois after a job-shadowing experience introduced her to radiography. She plans to grow her X-ray skills and may cross-train in CT, MRI or mammography.

📚 Nora Fuller, a junior at Bolivar High School, is working toward an associate degree in bioclinical sciences. “I had my doubts at first,” she said. “But after my first day, I knew I could.”

Southwest Missouri needs more healthcare professionals, and these students are ready to answer the call.

Things got a little messy during this hands-on lab, but our Alliance high school students were learning some pretty cool things about radiography!

Using balloons, air, and barium, students got to see how fluids move through the stomach and intestines and how patient positioning affects what healthcare professionals see during fluoroscopic imaging procedures.

It’s a fun (and memorable!) way to take what they’re learning in the classroom and put it into practice.

We love seeing our high school students get exposure to real-world healthcare concepts through hands-on learning experiences like this with Ozarks Tech! 👏

Nursing school, a full-time job, kids, and everything else life throws your way. How do you make it all work?

For working parents like Hadley and Kaitlin, the new ASN Direct Entry program through Ozarks Tech at The Alliance for Healthcare Education has been a game changer!

With evening and weekend classes, an accelerated 14-month nursing program, and a supportive community of instructors and classmates who understand the challenges of balancing school and family life, these moms are proving that pursuing a career in nursing doesn’t have to mean putting everything else on hold.

And one of their favorite parts? The friendships they’ve made with other parents who are navigating the same season of life.

Of course, that support doesn’t stop in the classroom! Hadley also shared how much her husband’s support at home has meant to her throughout this journey, especially as their family grew from one child to two during the program. Having people in your corner, both at home and at school, can make all the difference.

We love hearing stories like theirs and seeing how this new program is helping make nursing education more accessible for busy adults right here in Springfield, Missouri!

Stop by, grab a bite and find one of our many comfy spots to sit, eat and stay awhile. We’re so excited to see this space officially open and serving everyone who walks through our doors!

Our newly renovated espresso bar at The Alliance at the Cox North campus officially opened TODAY, and yes, it’s open to the public!

Open:
Monday–Friday
7 AM–2 PM

Jesse with CoxHealth Food & Nutrition Services gave us a tour of the new space, which has been completely expanded to offer more coffee and tea options, grab-and-go snacks, baked goods, gluten-free options and plenty of ways to fuel your day.

And when you stop in, Steven and Janine, our espresso experts with more than eight years of experience behind the bar, will be ready to take care of you. ☕

👉Now we just need one thing: a NAME! 👀 We’re looking for a creative name for our new espresso bar, so drop your ideas in the comments. We want to hear them!

And this is only the beginning. Our brand-new cafeteria is coming soon with hot entrées, more grab-and-go options and a beautiful seating area for students, healthcare teams and visitors to study, work or take a break.

If there’s ever a Netflix documentary about The Alliance renovation, Jerremy has STORIES….

Somewhere along the way, “renovating a hospital into a healthcare education campus” also turned into oversized banners, last-minute problem solving, unexpected discoveries under the floors… and apparently pushing Tim the SIM around the building 😅

We’ll be the first to admit, we’ve had a few off-the-wall requests throughout this process. Thankfully, Jerremy and the DeWitt team have been incredibly good sports through all of it! Always willing to problem-solve, pivot, and figure out how to make our ideas actually happen.

All jokes aside, transforming this building has been a huge undertaking, and we’re incredibly grateful for the people helping us bring this vision to life.

Jerremy and DeWitt team, thanks for putting up with us. We promise all of our requests are completely normal from here on out.*

There’s something pretty special about hearing directly from the students at the heart of the Alliance…

Students representing Springfield Public Schools, Ozarks Tech and Missouri State University recently had the opportunity to share their stories with the Alliance Board — why they chose this path, what their experience has been like so far and what they’re loving most about it.

It was also a chance for them to personally thank some of the people who helped make these opportunities possible.

From high school to college and beyond, these students are a glimpse of exactly what the Alliance was created to do: build clearer, more connected pathways into healthcare.

These students are the reason behind it all, and we can’t wait to see where their paths in healthcare take them.
