St Paul's has been a working masonic lodge in Springfield, the capital city of Illinois, since 1865 and has a rich history in the Community; organized under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of the State of Illinois. Freemasonry is the world’s first and largest fraternal organization, based on the belief that a man who strives to improve himself, can also improve his community and th

e world at large. The Freemasons of Illinois have more than 50,000 members & over 500 lodges throughout the state. Through our philanthropy and social activities, members often find lifelong friendships and valuable connections for the future. Paul's is located on the west side of Springfield in the Springfield Masonic Center, meeting on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Dinner is served at 6pm with the stated meeting at 7pm. Any man interested may join us for dinner to learn more. The suggested dress is a collared shirt, slacks & dress shoes; a sport coat is also recommended. Paul’s, we pride ourselves with trying to achieve what those who came before us have. This is reflected in the way we dress, the experience of our candidates as they progress through their degrees, and with the long form ritual that is learned and performed.

Freemasonry in Action at Lee Elementary School

Bro. James Butler and WB. Brian Giddings recently delivered backpacks filled with school supplies to Lee School, where they were joined by Principal Lindsey Rudd and Jennifer Martin, who was on hand to help.

The donation was made possible through IMCAP’s Lodge Backpack Connection, which reimburses Illinois Masonic Lodges up to $1,000 each fiscal year for backpacks and school supplies donated in their communities.

We’re proud to put this great Masonic program to work right here at home!

🏆⛳ ST. PAUL’S NO. 500 BRINGS HOME THE HARDWARE!

At July’s Grand Lodge Charity Golf Tournament, WB John Nelson, Bro. Russ Clark, Bro. Bill Sinnott, and Bro. Gary Bacon represented St. Paul’s No. 500 and walked away with the tournament’s prestigious “Honesty Award.”

For those unfamiliar with this particular golfing distinction, that means…

They came in last.

But there WERE moments of greatness. On one hole, the team managed a birdie using only a 3-iron, capped off by WB John Nelson sinking the putt with his driver.

That’s either incredible versatility or a pretty good explanation for the Honesty Award.

There is also some debate over whether the award was actually called the “Better Luck Next Time Award.” Either way, the Brothers supported a great cause, had a great time, and made sure St. Paul’s No. 500 didn’t leave the tournament empty-handed.

The scorecard is temporary. The trophy is forever. 🏆

Celebrating Our 2026 Scholarship Recipients!

Tonight, St. Paul’s Lodge No. 500 was proud to recognize three outstanding young people, each receiving a $2,000 scholarship to help continue their education.

Supporting the next generation is one of the most meaningful ways we can serve our community, and we’re honored to play a small part in their journey.

📍 Where’s Joe? St. Paul’s Lodge Edition!

It looks like Most Worshipful Grand Master Joseph B. Ferrell, of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Illinois, approves of what we’ve been up to at St. Paul’s Lodge No. 500!

Through the magic of the Grand Master’s “Where’s Joe?” initiative, Joe joined us for fellowship, good food, degree work, and plenty of laughter as we welcomed four new Entered Apprentices into our ancient and honorable fraternity.

From the dinner table to the lodge room and everywhere in between, these photos capture what Freemasonry is all about: Brotherhood, tradition, mentorship, and fellowship.

As the Grand Master’s theme reminds us, “Legacy & Fellowship” isn’t just a slogan—it’s something we build every time we gather, share a meal, confer a degree, and invest in the next generation of Masons.

Last night was a memorable evening at St. Paul’s Lodge No. 500 as we conferred the Entered Apprentice Degree upon four worthy candidates.

To ensure each candidate received the full experience and attention the degree deserves, the degree was conferred twice, with two candidates receiving the degree in each conferral.

And in the spirit of the Grand Master’s “Where’s Joe?” initiative, it appears Joe approved of…

The evening was filled with excellent ritual work, strong participation from the brethren, and the kind of fellowship that reminds us why Masonry continues to thrive generation after generation.

Last night we gathered for our annual St. John the Baptist Dinner, celebrating one of the patron saints of Freemasonry with an evening of fellowship and Brotherly Love.

Unfortunately our Worshipful Master, Steve Zoelzer, wasn’t able to join us and we didn’t have a formal program, but that certainly didn’t diminish the evening. What started as a reservation for 12 quickly grew to 14, and the restaurant graciously squeezed us all into our private room.

Bro. John Thompson from Tyrian Lodge No.333 was also with us, but he volunteered to take the picture, so he’s missing from this one.

Masonry is about more than meetings and agendas. Some of our strongest bonds are forged around the dinner table, sharing stories, laughter, and enjoying each other’s company.

Thank you to all the Brothers who came out to celebrate St. John the Baptist. We missed those who couldn’t be with us and look forward to seeing everyone again soon. Fraternally!

Western Area Officers Competition

Today, the officers of St. Paul’s Lodge No. 500 had the honor of representing our lodge at the Western Area Officers Competition, hosted by Macomb Lodge No. 17.

Competing alongside Rushville Lodge No. 9 and Aledo Lodge No. 252, we were proud to showcase the ritual work that our officers have spent countless hours preparing. The dedication, practice, and teamwork that went into today’s performance are something every member of our lodge can be proud of.

The official results won’t be announced until the Grand Lodge Communication in October, so now we wait.

Regardless of the final outcome, our officers represented St. Paul’s Lodge with professionalism, pride, and dignity.

A sincere thank you to Macomb Lodge No. 17 for hosting a great event, and congratulations to Rushville No. 9 and Aledo No. 252 for their excellent work. We are honored to stand alongside such dedicated Brothers.

Win or lose, today was a great day for Freemasonry.
