There may be a reason so many important conversations happen in the car. Sitting side-by-side can feel less intimidating than sitting face-to-face, making it easier for some children to share what's on their mind.

Instead of stopping at "Did you have fun?" try asking questions that invite your child to share more about their experience.

"What was the best part of your day?"

"Did anything make you uncomfortable?"

"Is there anything you want to talk about?"

These questions aren't about making children fearful. They're about making conversation feel normal. When children know they can talk about everyday experiences, they're more likely to talk about difficult ones too.

One question can tell you a lot about an organization's commitment to child safety. 💡

Before enrolling your child in sports, camps, after school programs, or other activities, don't just ask about schedules or registration. Ask about safety.

How does the organization help prevent adults from being alone with children? What policies are in place to create observable and interruptible interactions? How are concerns reported?

Organizations committed to protecting children should welcome these conversations. Child safety is strongest when families and organizations work together.

More free time often means more time online. Whether children are gaming, messaging friends, scrolling social media, or exploring new apps, summer can bring new digital experiences and new challenges.

One of the most important things adults can do is create an environment where children feel safe asking for help.

If something online feels uncomfortable, confusing, or concerning, children should know they can come to a safe adult without fear of judgment or punishment.

Because digital safety is not just about technology. It's about trust, communication, and knowing where to turn when something doesn't feel right. Read more about digital safety in our latest blog at bit.ly/D2L2026SummerSafety.

The holidays can bring joy, connection, and a lot of expectations for children. Setting clear boundaries with visitors and gift giving helps create a season where kids feel safe, understood, and supported. 💙

Small choices make a big difference. When we let children decide how they want to greet family or express gratitude, we show them that their comfort matters and that their voice belongs in the room.

This holiday season, let’s create spaces where children feel respected and where their boundaries are honored. Their safety and confidence start with us.
