💡 Our Therapeutic Mentoring Process 🌙
One question I get all the time is...
"What exactly happens during Therapeutic Mentoring?"
I don't believe children are "bad." I don't believe they're "attention seeking" or "choosing" to have a difficult time. That is something I have always maintained since my early 20s.
I believe just as much of the evidence shows, that kids do well if they can. When they're struggling, it's usually because they're missing a skill, not because they're missing motivation.
That's why my work is rooted in the Think:Kids Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) Model, an evidence based approach developed at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Instead of focusing on punishment, rewards, or simply trying to stop behaviors, we work together to figure out why the behavior is happening in the first place.
Together, we identify the skills that need strengthening, such as:
💡Emotional regulation
💡Frustration tolerance
💡Problem solving
💡Communication
💡Cognitive flexibility
💡Executive functioning
💡Healthy decision making
From there - I partner with the youth to help them build those skills while working collaboratively to solve the challenges they're experiencing at home, school, and in the community.
My goal isn't to "fix" children. My goal always to empower them. I have learned in 22 years of Human Services work involving children that when children feel heard, understood, and included in the solution, they're far more likely to develop lasting skills and confidence that carry with them for life.
At Thinkers & Dreamers Inc., we're not just managing behaviors. We're building resilient, confident young people one conversation, one skill, and one solution at a time 💛💙💛
