Another epic SMMA Spring Extension Honors Luncheon was enjoyed by a large group of members. The committee did such a great job! The decorations (mostly the original artwork of Felicia Ellis) were over the top and spectacular. The tablescapes were so creative with various part of the Alice in Wonderland story to find. We all loved the beautiful violin music from Disney’s Alice in Wonderland played by Claire Burrell Herzog (the granddaughter of Dr. Rebbeca Burrell). Lunch was tea party style (crab salad, chicken salad and tuna salad with hot rolls and fresh fruit, dessert was assorted petit four cakes).

Nick Nelson, Springfield Art Museum director, gave an update in the progress with the museum renovation and the move yo the new offices in the Willhoit Building
Exciting things store at both places.

Tina Stillwell, outgoing SMMA President, gave a brief summary of all the faulous things that have been accomplished thia past year.

Shelley Travis, President of the Cabool Art Extension, gave an update on that group. Chris Davis, president of the Marshfield Art Extention sooke about their year and exciting new plans for next year .

Tina Stillwell, Deanna Ford and helpers gave tributes to five SMMA members who passed away during this past year. Amateur d’Art member, Kathleen Griesemer; Cabool Art Club members, Faye Matherly and Eva Jane Clark; Theatre Appreciation member, Jeannie Manes; and 20th Century Art member, Patricia Squires. These lovely women will be missed.

I didn’t take extensisve pictures this year since I wasn’t on the committee, but I’ll share the few I did take. Thank you for a wonderful luncheon!

The March 18, 2025 meeting of the Cabool Art Club was held at the Christian Church and showcased both instrumentalists and vocalists from the Cabool High School Band and Choir Department under the direction of Wendy Inman. The talented performers entertained Club members with an enjoyable program demonstrating works from a variety of composers and performing a range of musical styles. The students are preparing for an upcoming Ensemble Contest and displayed excellent preparation and understanding of their repertoire with their engaging melodies.
Following the marvelous musical performance, Club President, Shelley Travis, called the business meeting to order with a prayer and thanked Hostess Patty Parker-Burns. Roll Call highlighted members sharing their most awkward or embarrassing moment. It was a hilarious way of getting to know and appreciate each other better. Committee Reports and Minutes were given. The Slate of incoming Club Officers was presented. A motion was made and approved to provide Art Club signage for the geraniums to be provided for the community at the Cabool Library and Senior Center.
The Cabool Art Club is delighted to announce Cabool's own Felicia Ellis was been selected to be the incoming Vice President of the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates (SMMA) which is affiliated with the Springfield Art Museum.
Plans were finalized for the group attending the upcoming annual SMMA Honors and Extensions Spring Luncheon at Twin Oaks Country Club.
The Club adjourned to enjoy elegant spring themed refreshments. Members and guests present were Kathy Anderson, Alex Arce, Marie Beller, Pat Caywood, Liz Durham, Felicia Ellis, Colleen Estep, Joyce Jones, Patty Parker-Burns, Carol Pettijohn, Lyn Santa, Shelley Travis, Tracey Trettin, Gloria White, Vicki Woods and Sari Wright.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be April 15 at the STARS Conservatory and feature special guests Nick Nelson, Director of the Springfield Art Museum and SMMA President Tina Stillwell.

I want to give a special shoutout to Ron and Debbie Johnson, owners of the Thicket, the Nest and the Branch. Them and their employees sold over $2,500 worth of tickets for the SMMA Holiday Home Tour this year. He has volunteered to help us this way both years and has been our best friend. They also allowed us to showcase their gorgeous home both years. How do we begin to thank such generous people? I baked them a peach pie and will forever be their customer. I hope you will shop there as well and remember to give them a pat on the back and hearty Thank You as well. Thanks again, Ron and Debbie, for your generous help!
