Stephen Jeffreys was a coal miner in South Wales from the time he was 12 years old and helping pay his parents bills, until God called him out and into the rest of the world at the age of 36.
After conviction of sin from encountering the presence of God during the 1904 Welsh Revival, he responded to the gospel and gave his life to Christ. Stephen went back to the coal mines for a few years, until God called him out into his personal evangelistic ministry.
Jeffrey's response to the call ultimately led to thousands upon thousands being reached with the gospel, and touched by God. But, he never forgot about his time in the coal mines. After his personal salvation, songs could be heard coming from the mines at night: "Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning."
The gospel and power of the Holy Spirit went with Stephen Jeffreys from the chapel, all the way down to the depths.
