🦓 Today is Rare Disease Day! 🦓

When you or a loved one first heard the words "gallbladder cancer," you likely quickly realized just how rare it is. Searching for answers, finding specialized oncologists, and looking for a community who truly understands the path ahead can feel like an incredibly lonely uphill battle.

This year’s Rare Disease Day theme is "More Than You Can Imagine," and for our community, that couldn’t be more accurate. The sheer resilience it takes to navigate a rare cancer—the endless research, the travel for clinical trials, the leaps of faith, and the daily emotional toll—is truly more than most people can fathom.

But being rare doesn't mean being invisible. At the Gallbladder Cancer Foundation, we are using today to loudly advocate for Equity. We believe that your zip code or the rarity of your tumor shouldn't dictate your access to life-saving care. We are fighting for more targeted research, better funding, and earlier detection methods for gallbladder cancer.

Today, we stand with over 300 million people worldwide to say that rare diseases deserve a spotlight.

Navigating a rare cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming, often requiring patients to navigate a labyrinth of specialists, clinical trials, and insurance hurdles. That is why, to mark Rare Disease Week, the Gallbladder Cancer Foundation is thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with Citizen Health to launch the AI Advocate for Gallbladder Cancer!

This platform relieves the "medical detective" burden on families by offering the following tools:

Centralized Care: Automatically gather and organize medical records, test results, and imaging from multiple health systems into one secure portal.

Instant Answers: Ask the AI specific questions about your health trends, like tumor markers, or ask for specific questions you should bring to your next oncologist visit.

Plain-Language Explanations: Receive plain-language explanations of complex pathology reports and biomarker data to better understand treatment options.

Simplified Advocacy: Use AI-generated summaries to prepare for specialist appointments, appeal insurance denials, and share organized data with clinical trial coordinators.

The AI Advocate was built by families who understand the stress of managing a rare condition. Participation is FREE and it takes only a few minutes to sign up for you or your loved one. Citizen Health is also now available on mobile for iPhone users in the US!

Patients and caregivers can sign up and begin centralizing their records starting today by visiting: https://www.citizen.health/ai-advocate/gbcf

Note: This is an additional tool and resource for patients & caregivers. The AI advocate does not replace our advocacy efforts and patients/caregivers can still schedule 1 on 1 advocacy meetings with us on our website: https://gallbladdercancer.org

Every cancer diagnosis is as unique as the person receiving it. No two journeys are the same—different types, different challenges, different triumphs.

On this World Cancer Day, we embrace the theme United By Unique. We recognize that while our individual paths may differ, we are brought together by a shared resilience and a common goal: a world where everyone receives the care that is right for them.

True progress isn't one-size-fits-all. It’s about understanding diverse needs, championing personalized care, and ensuring equity for every single person, regardless of their background or where they live.

Today, let’s honor the unique battles fought by survivors, lift up those currently navigating their own distinct challenges, and remember the vibrant individuals we’ve lost. Our differences are not our division; they are our strength.

How you can foster unity today:

Listen actively: Make space for someone to share their unique story without judgment or unsolicited advice.

Advocate for equity: Support initiatives that aim to close the care gap and provide access to personalized treatment for underserved communities.

Broaden your view: Learn about a less common type of cancer to understand the diverse challenges within this community.

We are many different voices, but together, we roar.

Stronger Together: Joining the NORD Community

We are proud to announce that the Gallbladder Cancer Foundation is officially a member of the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD)! 🤝

Gallbladder cancer is often overlooked and under-researched. By joining forces with NORD, we are amplifying the voices of our patients, caregivers, and survivors. This partnership allows us to:

Advocate more effectively for increased research funding.

Access resources that will help us provide better support for those navigating a diagnosis.

Learn from other leaders in the rare disease community

Rare diseases may be uncommon individually, but together, we are a massive community of over 30 million Americans. We look forward to working alongside NORD to ensure that no one faces gallbladder cancer alone.

Today is Rare Cancer Day, which highlights the significance of rare cancers, including gallbladder cancer. Collectively, rare cancers make up 20% of all diagnosed cancer cases.

Rare cancers, by definition, affect fewer people, but the impact on those individuals and their families is enormous. They often face unique challenges:

Fewer Treatment Options: Due to less research funding.

Delayed Diagnosis: Because symptoms are less familiar.

Smaller Support Communities: Making the journey feel more isolated.

Today, we stand in solidarity with all those battling a rare cancer. Every cancer diagnosis matters, and every patient deserves hope, research, and support.
