American Business Club of Springfield

American Business Club of Springfield Welcome to the American Business Club of Springfield, Illinois, the largest (and we think most fun) Chapter of AMBUCS in the nation!

The American Business Club (ABC) is first and foremost a social club, formed in 1925 to foster fellowship and cooperation among its members. Additionally, ABC members are encouraged to have an interest in the public welfare and be of service to their community and society in general. Our charitable activities predominately benefit physically or economically challenged children.

About ten days ago, members of our Club received the second most devastating news we could possibly have received. Most of us still can't believe it and none of us wants it to be true. But it is, and so we work now to consider how we can continue to build a better community--as we have for over 100 years, Shoulders Together.

We were honored to have the opportunity last Fall to make a donation to help keep these great Vets flying. Cheers for a great trip to all!

It was the tightest enthusiasm contest we ever experienced but the front of the plane squeezed out a win.

Great flight crew…
Great weather forecast….
Great veterans….

Off to a good start. !

We have a confession to make. We have always considered the days when we give away Amtryke specially-engineered tricycles to a group of to be our Very Best Days of the Year.

We were wrong.

Yesterday, we had three Amtrykes that we'd given to a family over the years returned to us. The family brought them back in the hope we could recondition them and possibly provide them to another deserving child to ride. They don't need them anymore because both of their boys who have been though the Amtryke program have *graduated to riding regular bikes*.

And so, officially, today is The Very Best Day of the Year.

In celebration of our 100-year Legacy of Service to the Springfield community, Storyteller Studios put together this beautiful video for our Gala Weekend last January. We believe it captures the spirit of our Club, a good sense of what we do, and a few small examples of the impact of our efforts on our friends and neighbors here, especially the little ones who most need someone's extra effort. (Stay around for the segment.)
If you have a spare half hour, we think you might enjoy watching it. We sure enjoy living it.

From the first days of our existence over 100 years ago, the American Business Club of Springfield has been about Giving. Today, we wrote the latest chapter in that century-long Legacy of Service as we distributed nearly $150,000 to over 25 local charities, funds generated from our volunteer efforts at the Illinois State Fair. These photos feature representatives of some of the most caring, compassionate, benevolent, and effective charitable organizations in our community, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to help. They are what we do!
To the groups pictured here, thank you for what you do and we invite you to tag yourself and share if you'd like!

This weekend was a special one as we welcomed our colleagues from across the region to National AMBUCS Central Region Conference. Of course, the highlight was a Route 66 sidetrip to Simpson's Harley Davidson for a stirring Presentation of the Colors and our latest always-inspirational Giveaway. Three New Riders took home their very own specially-engineered and professionally-fitted Amtrykes while a full house of Ambucs and guests left with new sets of lifetime memories.

Trenton! Our VP goes National!!

We’re so proud to see our very own Ashley Schilling featured in iNRRTS Directions Magazine for her incredible work as a pediatric physical therapist, educator, and advocate for adaptive mobility.

From developing national therapist training on adaptive bikes to serving as the AMBUCS Amtryke Director of Education, Ashley continues to inspire independence, mobility, and joy for families across the country.

Her passion reminds us that an adaptive bike isn’t just “nice to have”, it’s a must-have for connection, freedom, and participation.
