It has been a busy couple of weeks for SPY athletes competing in both the first Illini District Championships since 2020 and the first IL YMCA Short Course State Championships since 2019.

At the District Championships hosted in Springfield the last weekend in February, SPY Athletes won both the Men's and Women's sides of the meet also taking home the combined team Title. All 10 of the competing age groups finished in the top 4 with 8 of those Age Groups finishing 1st overall. The team combined for 50 total event wins including relays and individual events.

Last weekend at the Illinois YMCA State Swimming Championships SPY athletes persevered through a tough 2.5 day meet format to take home 1st place in the Men's, Women's, and Combined team divisions. This is the first time SPY Athletes have accomplished this feat at the Short Course Championships since 2016. SPY athletes had 21 State Champion events between relay and individual events. The 8U Girls, 10U Boys, 12U Boys, and 14U Girls all won their respective age groups with 3 other age groups finishing in the top 3.

Next up 12 athletes will be heading to Greensboro the week of March 28th for the first Short Course YMCA National Championships since 2019.

With the 2021 Long Course Season winding down SPY will be able to add new athletes to the team for the 2021-22 Short Course Season which begins at the end of August.

SPY will be able to add new swimmers to the swim team this upcoming season. SPY serves athletes ages 5 to 18 throughout the Short Course season which runs from the end of August through March.

When the dust settled on the 2021 IL YMCA Long Course State Championships the SPY Typhoons came out as Champions! Phenomenal performances from the 47 participating athletes which brought home the team’s first ever Long Course State Championship winning both the boys side and girls side of the meet! Shout out to the 10u Boys, 12u Boys, 14u Boys, 14u Girls, and 21u Girls who all won their respective age groups at the meet!

04/15/2021

SPY Athletes returned to in-person competition against other teams last weekend at the YMCA National Festival site in Brown Deer Wisconsin. It was the first meet out of state since January 2020.

9 athletes participated and excelled over the course of the 4 day meet. Results from this site will be combined with 4 other National Festival sites across the country.

SPY will cap off the 2020-21 Short Course season with a meet in two weeks at home talking part in the IL YMCA State Invitational.

Congrats Kaelin on setting the new SSDL record for no-momentum sit-ups in 2 minutes! She absolutely crushed the previous record by 13 sit-ups! Way to go!

Congrats to from SPY for breaking the Girls 15-18 “No-mentum” Situps record with 64💪🏻😤🔥!!! She absolutely crushed it and I won’t be surprised to see her doin big things this year🏊🏼‍♂️🏆💯...she takes over the record previously held by .moehn. Can’t wait to see what the rest of this year will bring! Congrats Kaelin and keep crushin it🔥🔥

SPY will be holding New Swimmer Evaluations by appointment only this year. While we will not be able to start the 2020-21 Short Course season by adding new members to the team, but we will still hold evaluations and generate a wait-list as well as explore if additional opportunities can be created through other programming. Click on the link and fill out the form to begin the process and receive additional information regarding our new operations for this coming season.

Due to the restrictions in place due to COVID-19, the SPY Swim Team will not be adding new members to start the 2020-21 Short Course season. New athletes interested in joining SPY can still be evaluated for the team and placed on a waitlist should a spot on the team become available.

I had the opportunity to talk to SwimSwam a little bit a few weeks ago about some things that makes SPY the team that it is. It is very cool to see the team featured on their Team of the Week series on their website. Enjoy SPY Fam!!!!

This week's Team of the Week is the Springfield YMCA Typhoons of Springfield, Illinois, which has been existence since 1955.

I am proud to introduce the newest member of the SPY family. Maren Ann Totura was born at 11:57 AM on April 11th weighing 8 lbs 7.5 oz and measuring 21.25 inches long. Mom and Maren are doing great and looking forward to heading home tomorrow.

We are so thankful for the care from the doctors and nurses during this crazy time as well as the prayers and well wishes from anyone who sent them.
