Please keep Sgt Watson’s family and Department in your prayers. Thank you, sir, for your service and sacrifice.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is saddened to report the passing of Sgt. Bruce Watson. The 20-year department veteran was fatally struck on his way home by a vehicle in Pearland near FM 2234 and Kingsley Drive. He had just finished an off-duty job leading a funeral procession. He succumbed to his injuries at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

"Our entire Sheriff's Office family is grieving the sudden loss of our long-time brother,” said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. "Sgt. Watson served his community with honor and distinction, and we ask for everyone to lift his family in prayer during this difficult time.”

Sgt. Watson, 51, was assigned to the Patrol Support Services Bureau, working the night shift at the Emergency Dispatch Center. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in March 2000 and previously served as a Detention Sergeant in the Harris County Jail, a patrol field training officer, and an instructor at the training academy.

Sgt. Watson was a proud U.S. Army veteran.

Sgt. Watson is survived by his wife, a Houston Police Department Officer, and his three adult children, two daughters, and a son.

Funeral arrangements for Sgt. Watson are pending.

Prayers for his family and community.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH POLICE SERGEANT DECEASED FOLLOWING VEHICLE ACCIDENT

On January 1, 2021, North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Sergeant Gordon William Best lost his life while in service to the community.

About 4:00 am on January 1, Sergeant Best responded to a call for service in Barefoot Resort. Roads were very wet and, while headed southbound on Highway 17, he lost control of his Police vehicle. The vehicle veered into a northbound lane and collided with a utility pole. Sergeant Best was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The SC Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating this accident.

We thank Horry County Police, Myrtle Beach Police, and the SC Highway Patrol for their assistance at the scene of the accident and for their valued support of Sergeant Best’s co-workers and friends behind the scenes.

We ask all to pray for Sergeant Gordon Best and his family.

Patrol Sergeant Gordon William Best was born on November 12, 1990. He joined the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department on October 21, 2013, and was promoted to Sergeant on February 17, 2019.
