Labor is on the ballot in the 3rd Hampden District! Unions have endorsed Tom Hendrickson, an Agawam city Councilor who has stood with unions. He's up against a 16-year incumbent MAGA Republican who doesn't show up for work and doesn't protect the interests of working families. Tom Hendrickson will fight for investment in Western Mass, take on telecom monopolies, and represent you on Beacon Hill. If you live in the 3rd Hampden District, vote Tom Hendrickson on November 3rd!

Today, the Western Mass Area Labor Federation organized a labor walk with the Working Families Party, UAW Region 9A, and Carpenters to support Tom Hendrickson and his campaign for State Rep in the 3rd Hampden District.

Tom is from a union family, will fight for affordability and good union jobs on Beacon Hill, and already has government experience serving on the Agawam City Council. His opponent, an incumbent MAGA Republican, no-shows committee meetings and failed to secure any district funding in the most recent Economic Development bill. The choice is clear:

Is your union facing a contract bargaining year? Are you interested in learning more about what makes a successful contract campaign? You should join us at the Western Mass ALF’s contract campaigns and collective bargaining training, where members of the ALF education committee will teach attendees about assessing members’ needs, organizing members for a contract campaign, the basics of bargaining, and escalation tactics during bargaining.

These skills are the foundation of a strong bargaining campaign, which in turn is the foundation of a strong union contract. Learn the basics of organizing for a stronger contract! This training will cover:

- Organizing your members to support your contract campaign
- Assessing the needs of your membership
- Basics of bargaining
- The rights and responsibilities of management in bargaining

Escalating series of actions and applying pressure during the bargaining process
This training will be led by members of the Western MA Area Labor Federation's Education Committee, bringing decades of practical experience in union organizing. Our training programs are open to members of any union. We believe that when we bring members of different unions together, we can learn from each other and build skills.

Dave Foley, president of SEIU Local 509 talked to us about some wins on defense in a challenging year, alongside opportunities for the future. SEIU Local 509 is one of the largest unions in Massachusetts, representing over 28,000 workers across sectors. Local 509 members have been instrumental in building the Western Mass Area Labor Federation, and we're proud to stand with them in all of their fights.

Congratulations to Baystate Franklin nurses on their new contract! When we fight, we win!

Massachusetts Nurses Association and Baystate Health reached a tentative three-year agreement for nurses at Baystate Franklin Medical Center following a year of negotiation.

Join the Pioneer Valley Workers Center and the Western Mass Area Labor Federation (AFL-CIO) for an indoor soccer tournament on Saturday, November 7th from 10 am to 6 pm at Allsport Arena in Northampton. We invite community members, unions, and allied organizations to form co-ed teams for the 2026 Edition of the Justice Cup!
