FYI
Our CEO shared this on Facebook but I wanted to share it with you all. I know as a kinship family I rely on FAC for support.

Over the weekend, the Missouri House Budget Chairman, Dirk Deaton, from Southwest Missouri, offered an amended budget designed to cut more dollars from the Governor’s proposed budget.

In good news, his amended budget includes restoring some of the funds that were removed from Developmental Disability programs (which I testified about last month.)

In bad news, the Chairman’s budget zeroes out state funding for our FosterAdopt Connect Missouri services. This would create a 70% reduction in our services to Missouri kids and families if this amendment is carried forward through the House and Senate.

If you are my friend, then you probably know how critical our services are to our kids and families. If you don’t, please visit FosterAdopt.org to learn more.

Today, together with our lobbyists and colleagues from CMFCAA (central MO) and FACC (St. Louis), we worked the halls of the Capital in Jefferson City. However we suspect that our fight to restore our funding is only just beginning. We anticipate sharing information with the media around the state tomorrow.

What can you do to help? Immediately- If you have any connections to members of the House Budget Committee, please call or email with why you believe that our funding (Family Resource Centers) should be restored. They need to hear your story. If they don’t fix it, then all the members of the House are up next (and it is an election year).

This cut is in the Department of Social Services budget bill, 2011. They’ll know. It was only just suggested Monday in committee by Rep Deaton. Our funding was supported in the DSS request and the Governor’s budget. We need our funding restored. Representative Collins has proposed an amendment to restore our funding that should be considered tomorrow morning. However she is a democrat and doesn’t have lots of sway.

We will probably need more help in the next few weeks if this doesn’t get fixed in the House. I’ll be on here begging for your help as developments occur. I simply cannot let this happen. Our kids, families and teams deserve so much better!

Thanks for reading all of this. And thank you for any effort you may decide to make on our behalf!

FosterAdopt Connect supports youth in foster/adoptive care, their caregivers, and their families for brighter futures and better outcomes.
