The 7th Annual Bee Payne-Stewart Strut & 5k is a community wide family fitness and fun event. This 1.5 mile walk and 5k run through Downtown Springfield is for people of all ages. Bring your family, friends, and pets for family fun, interaction with local collegiate coaches and student-athletes, networking, snacks and a FREE t-shirt! The Strut is a 1.5 mile walk where “strutters” have the chance t

o network and socialize with collegiate coaches and student-athletes from MSU, Drury and Evangel, as well as other community members. Walkers form teams and compete against each other with fundraising efforts. If you don’t have a team to join, join Bee’s Team with Bee’s daughters, Susan and Lora! The 5k is a 3.1 mile run/walk for your chances to win prizes in different age categories! You can register as an individual or you can still form your own team or join a team … all fundraising efforts are welcome!

Registration open for Bee Payne-Stewart Strut & 5K, held April 27

Registration is now open for the 7th annual Bee Payne-Stewart Strut & 5K, to be held Saturday, April 27, 8 a.m. in downtown Springfield, starting at Mediacom Ice Park.

The 5K run is a timed event, routed through the Missouri State University campus. The 5K features medals for overall, masters and age group winners for both male and female participants. The Strut (walk) is a non-competitive 1.5-mile walk through downtown Springfield. Both events are geared to all ages and fitness levels – a true family fitness event.

The Strut celebrates the memory of Bee Payne-Stewart, a passionate advocate for women’s leadership and athletics in Springfield. She was a founding member of the Leagues of Women Voters, helped start the Family Violence Center, now called Harmony House, and was the first woman to serve as president of the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.

The event raises funds for the Springfield-Greene County Park Board Scholarship Fund, the Women’s Intersports Network (WIN) and women’s athletic programs at Drury University, Evangel University and Missouri State University. Participants are also encouraged to donate items urgently needed at Harmony House, including office supplies, hygiene and baby products, and linens. A complete list is posted at bpsSTRUT.com.

Registration for the Strut is available online at bpsSTRUT.com, $25 for adults, $15 for students and $10 for kids age 12 and younger. Online registration deadline is April 24; after that, participants may register at packet pick-up on Friday, April 26. Registration includes a t-shirt and 5K race materials.

Packet pick-up is Friday, April 26, 12-6 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, 7 - 7:50 a.m. at Mediacom Ice Park, 635 E. Trafficway. There will be no race day registration.

Spring has arrived and it is time once again for the Bee Payne-Stewart Strut and 5K and you are hereby invited to participate in this worthwhile event.

Proceeds of the Strut benefit many organizations with the Springfield, MO community:


− Women’s athletic programs at Drury, Evangel, and Missouri State Universities

− Springfield-Greene County Park Board Scholarship Fund

The 7th Annual BEE PAYNE-STEWART STRUT is Saturday, April 27 and for the second year will include a 5K. Check in at Mediacom Ice Park parking lot begins at 7:00 a.m. Welcome and announcements begin at 7:30 a.m. and the event starts at 8:00 a.m.
