‼️ Last month, Blue Island D130 laid off 30 union custodians. Since their termination, the Blue Island school buildings are in filthy and unsanitary conditions. Blue Island Education Association members joined with parents, students and SEIU members to demand CLEAN and SAFE schools for students and educators.

Cafeteria floors have not been mopped, toilets are dirty, hygiene product trash bins are overflowing and mold was discovered in the students’ locker room (after the district told educators it was just dirt). We stand with Blue Island EA in demanding CLEAN and SAFE schools! Bring back the SEIU custodians NOW!

Every educator deserves to work in an environment where they are supported, respected and protected. When concerns are brought forward by our members, those concerns should be taken seriously and addressed appropriately. At this time, we have members that are not supported by the administration and the Board of Education.

This Monday, we are asking all members to wear red and attend the Board of Education meeting to stand in solidarity with a group of our fellow teachers.

IEA's legislation on Notice to Remedy, SB 2914, passed out of the Illinois House of Representatives. It passed the Illinois Senate in April, and both chambers passed the bill with veto-proof majorities. It now awaits Gov. JB Pritzker’s signature to become law.
