Last week, MADD Wisconsin had the honor of recognizing 20 law enforcement agents from across the state who go above and beyond every day to save lives and keep our roads safe from impaired driving. ๐Ÿ’™

These dedicated heroes play a vital role in making our communities safer, and we are grateful for their commitment and service.

The awards were presented during a special ceremony at the Governorโ€™s Conference on Highway Safety in Wisconsin Dells. We were honored to hear from special guests, Director Jessica Wagner of the WisDOT Bureau of Transportation Safety, Tina Bondurant Section Chief for WisDOT, and Mission Speakers Amy & Scott Froehlich.

Weโ€™re also grateful to WisDOT for the opportunity to lead a session on Court Monitoring at the Governors Conference. Led by Cece Miglio, Illinois Court Monitoring Program Manager; Karl Krull, Wisconsin Program Manager; and Krystina LaCaze, Wisconsin Court Monitor, the session provided insight into the benefits of court monitoring, including increasing visibility, highlighting system gaps, promoting accountability, supporting partners, and preventing impaired driving.

A special thank you to our generous sponsors for helping make this event possible: Wisconsin Department of Transportation, AAA The Auto Club Group, and Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C.. Your support helps us continue moving our mission forward.

A big thank you to the McLean County Sheriff's Office for partnering with MADD for Saturation Saturday! Weโ€™re grateful for your continued commitment to keeping our roads safe and building stronger communities.

Tonight, the McLean County Sheriffโ€™s Office is joining law enforcement agencies across the country and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for ๐’๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐’๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐š๐ฒ - a coordinated effort to combat impaired driving ahead of Labor Day weekend.

Our goal is pretty simple: ๐ฌ๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ.

And the numbers show why this matters.

According to MADDโ€™s 2024 Illinois DUI data:

๐Ÿบ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ– ๐ฉ๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐š๐ฅ๐œ๐จ๐ก๐จ๐ฅ-๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐œ๐ซ๐š๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐ฌ, accounting for approximately 23% of Illinoisโ€™ 1,245 crash fatalities.

๐Ÿš” ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ,๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ“ ๐ƒ๐”๐ˆ ๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ were recorded across Illinois.

๐Ÿ‘จ ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ’% ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ๐ž, with men ages 25โ€“34 having the highest DUI arrest rate.

๐Ÿ•š The average DUI offender was ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ ๐ฒ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ฌ ๐จ๐ฅ๐, ๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ๐ž, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐›๐ž๐ญ๐ฐ๐ž๐ž๐ง ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ ๐ฉ.

And the average BAC? .

Those arenโ€™t numbers we want to see grow.

Thatโ€™s why deputies will be out tonight with increased enforcement and visibility as part of Saturation Saturday and NHTSAโ€™s ๐ƒ๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐’๐จ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐ซ ๐†๐ž๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐Ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ campaign.

So if your Saturday night includes drinking, make the smart decision before the first drink: designate a sober driver, grab a rideshare, call a friend, or stay where you are.

Because finding a ride home is a whole lot easier, and cheaper, than finding yourself in the back of one of ours. ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿ˜‰
