Nestled between brick-paved streets and just blocks from the State Capitol, the Illinois Executive Mansion has been home to Illinois’ governors since 1855.

The Illinois Governor's Mansion Association is a private, non-profit organization (created in 1972) dedicated to preserving, furnishing, and overseeing the restoration of the Illinois Governor's Mansion in Springfield and the Hayes House in Du Quoin. It is the third-oldest continuously occupied governor’s mansion in the United States. The Illinois Executive Mansion Association is a non-profit board created in 1972 to preserve and oversee the restoration of the building. That mission has never been more urgent and important than it is today. The Illinois Executive Mansion Association is in the planning stages of a major restoration project to preserve the People’s House for future generations. It is impossible to count the number of historical events the mansion has witnessed since it was built in 1855, and it is critical the building be repaired so all Illinoisans have the chance to learn from it now and in the future.

Attend the Halloween Candy Giveaway at the Illinois Governor's Mansion from 1 pm to 3 pm on October 24th to hang with Smokey Bear🐻🧯. The Illinois Governor’s Mansion is honoring International Week of the Deaf and World Deaf Day this Sunday, September 27th, by including an ASL interpreter on both tours. This day exists to raise awareness of challenges, celebrate Deaf culture, and promote inclusion. Registration is free and required.

ONE MONTH until the annual Halloween Candy Giveaway at the Illinois Governor's Mansion! The Governor and First Lady will pass out candy from 1 pm to 3 pm on Saturday, October 24th. One thing about the beautiful Illinois Governor's Mansion- you will see and learn something different every time you visit! Don't forget to look up as you walk through the parlors to see a pair of vases donated by the heirs of John T. Stuart.

Stuart met Abraham Lincoln in 1832, assisted him in studying law, and became his first law partner. A cousin of Mary Lincoln, Stuart and his family lived across Fourth Street from the Mansion. See less

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the rich contributions of Hispanic communities and the many cultures, traditions, and stories that bring us together. The Illinois State Museum is honoring the independence of 21 diverse countries while embracing the differences that make our communities unique—from food and traditions to language and heritage. Most of all, it’s a time to come together in celebration and support.

Join the Hispanic Women of Springfield and the Illinois State Museum at this free festival Saturday, October 3rd, from 10 am to 3 pm to celebrate with music, food, and culture. All are welcome!
