On Thursday, Indian Orchard Elementary hosted a Career Day that featured Professionals of Color and it was an amazing day! We welcomed over forty presenters and students were able to see themselves in a variety of professional roles. Our students were excited, engaged, and were full of questions for our guests. A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this day and we can’t wait to do it again next school year!

Honrando la herencia y las contribuciones de la comunidad hispana en nuestra ciudad de Springfield y en la nación, con orgullo las Escuelas Públicas de Springfield celebran el Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana. ¡Que viva la cultura!

Honoring the contributions of the Hispanic community in Springfield and in the US, Springfield Public Schools proudly celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Every year the United States of America observes National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.

Did you 67.8% of our Springfield Public Schools student population is Hispanic?
