Nicole McKinney, our Training & Prevention Director, helps prepare our community to better protect children.

Nicole leads a team that provides training and education to schools, professionals, community members, and MDT partners, giving adults the knowledge and tools they need to recognize and respond to child abuse and unsafe situations.

Her team’s work extends beyond the CAC, strengthening the network of adults and professionals working together to keep children safe.

We’re grateful for Nicole’s leadership and the lasting impact she and her team make throughout our community.

Nicole and Jessica from our Education and Prevention Team had the opportunity to try a new approach to digital safety education at The "Life" Church Of Mountain Grove.

While Jessica led parents and caregivers through a conversation about Internet Safety and Generative AI, Nicole was downstairs talking with youth about Online Safety, all at the same time.

By creating separate spaces for adults and youth to learn about digital safety, each group could have conversations designed specifically for them. But the learning did not stop when they left. We were excited to hear that the presentations sparked conversations between caregivers and their children on the ride home.

Thank you to The Life Church for inviting us to be part of this important conversation and for creating space for families to learn together about staying safe online. 💙

As a Community Education Partner with NCMEC, our team is able to provide trainings using trusted resources, research, and materials to help equip both adults and youth with the tools they need to navigate the digital world safely.

A great training is one that leaves you feeling more prepared to help keep kids safe. 💙

Our Prevention Team recently provided Mandated Reporter Training to staff at Springfield-Greene County Library District , and one staff member shared:
“I've done a lot of Mandated Reporter training in my years, and this was by far the best version I've had.”

We’re grateful for the opportunity to train adults in our community and help build a stronger network of safe adults for kids.

We are so grateful to the Finley River Community Foundation for a $1,000 grant supporting MDT Orientation Training! 💙

This funding helps us provide training for new Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) members, introducing them to the Child Advocacy Center, the importance of the CAC model, and the vital role each member plays in working together to support children and families.

Thank you, Finley River Community Foundation, for investing in the professionals who help make our community’s response to child abuse stronger and more coordinated.

FACES BEHIND OUR MISSION💙

Meet Java, one of the most beloved members of the Child Advocacy Center team!

Java is our Facility Dog, and she has spent her time at the CAC bringing comfort, connection, and plenty of smiles to the children, families, and team members she meets. Whether she is sitting quietly beside a child, offering a comforting nuzzle, or simply being a calming presence, Java helps create a warm and welcoming environment during what can be one of the hardest days a child and family may experience.

As Java prepares to retire this fall, we are celebrating the important role she has played in our mission and the countless moments of comfort and joy she has brought to the CAC. 🐾

When she is not working, Java has quite the personality. She can often be found carrying two tennis balls or her favorite ball and baby combination in her mouth, sometimes even while she is asleep!

Java is also a bit of a foodie. She happily accepts green beans, broccoli, cucumbers, pineapple, strawberries, and watermelon, but do not even think about offering her blackberries, raspberries, or oranges.

And for the record, Java would also like everyone to know she is not responsible for any mysterious t***s that may occur in the interview rooms.

Today, on National Dog Day, we are celebrating Java and the comfort, companionship, and happiness she has brought to the CAC family. We are grateful for every child, family, and team member who has had the opportunity to meet her.
