Explorer, journalist, historian, and passionate advocate for wildlife, George Bird Grinnell stands among the most influential figures of conservation.
Often referred to as the father of American conservation, Grinnell was not only a founding member of Boone and Crockett Club, but went on to found the American Game Protective and Propagation Association. As the mission evolved, the organization became what we recognize today as the Wildlife Management Institute.

In 2007, WMI renamed their distinguished service award as a nod to their tenacious founder. The George Bird Grinnell Memorial Award is the highest honor for those who continue to champion for conservation and improved wildlife resources management.

Lee Wulff helped shape modern fly fishing not only through his skill with a rod but through his deep belief that fishing should honor the waters and wildlife that make the sport possible.

In 1979, Lee and his wife, Joan Wulff — a master fly fisher and teacher in her own right — founded the Wulff School of Fly Fishing on their Beaverkill property in New York. Together, they taught generations of anglers to see fly fishing as more than a sport. It was a practice of patience, observation, and stewardship.

Long before conservation became a movement, Aldo Leopold understood that protecting wildlife meant protecting the land and water they depended on.
As a forester, ecologist, hunter, and conservationist, Leopold helped shape modern wildlife management and inspired generations to see ourselves not as owners of the land, but as part of a larger community of life.
His legacy lives on in every hunter, angler, landowner, and conservationist working to leave wild places better than they found them.
