🇺🇸 Remembering D-Day – June 6, 1944 🇺🇸

Eighty-two years ago, thousands of Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy in one of the most significant military operations in history. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to liberty helped secure freedom for millions and changed the course of World War II.

As members of the Illinois Society Sons of the American Revolution, we honor the legacy of those who answered their nation’s call, just as our Patriot ancestors did during the American Revolution. Across generations, Americans have stood ready to defend the ideals of liberty, self-government, and human freedom.

Today, we remember the heroes of D-Day and all who served during World War II. May their sacrifice never be forgotten, and may their example continue to inspire future generations.

“From the shores of Normandy to the fields of freedom, courage has always defended liberty.”

🔎 Tip from Staff Genealogist Bill Burchfield

When researching your family history, don’t overlook “the other census records” — tax lists!

While they aren’t technically census records, tax lists can provide many of the same details, such as where an ancestor lived and when they appeared in a community. In some cases, they can reveal even more, including property ownership, acreage, livestock, and other clues about an ancestor’s life and financial standing.

If your ancestor seems to disappear between census years, tax records may be the key to filling in the gaps and keeping your research on track.
