The Morning Minute 60 seconds of reflection on what David is reflecting on today

Today we look at the “being” that turns into spiritual fruit…

Devotional Point 4 today: God is trying to call us back to that for which He created us—to worship and to enjoy Him forever!

Scripture 4 today: “filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: sometimes we confuse “being“ with “doing“. Is it of what we do is actually who we are. However, we know that that is not the case. In the investment in the spiritual disciplines which is definitely a “doing“ thing, the result is incredible spiritual fruit. Often times, fruit that we are not aware of. Spiritual fruit brings 100% of the focus to God. Everything else brings focus to someone or something. We are not being transformed due to our hard work, we are being transformed by the hard work of the Holy Spirit inside us…

Today we consider the importance of forgetting the past and looking forward..

Devotional Point 4 today: we are never at the end of God’s love….

Scripture 4 today: “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: if your “God story“ is about something that happened many years ago, any time more than one year ago, then you are probably holding onto the past. But forget that, is it gonna do for you yesterday? Sometimes, we just don’t think about it, but the things God is doing in our lives need to be at the front of our fingertips all the time… he wants to do something great in us today, this very day!!!

Today we look at loving the people who are boorish and distasteful…

Devotional Point 4 today: It is possible to love people in the Lord even though you may not like their boorish or distasteful human traits

Scripture 4 today: “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: taking a few steps forward in loving people who irritate the life out of you is only the start. I really love His observation on the people that we find difficult to love: boorish and distasteful human traits. For me, those are the people who always have to be “right“ in any discussion about anything. One common trait amongst all these people is there is an incredible need to control-everything... Most of us naturally dislike this, but finding a way to love these people anyway is something only the Holy Spirit can do for us.

Today we look at the concept of why we sin, easy to understand, we just want our own way…

Devotional Point 4 today: We have rejected Him from our lives because we must have our own way.

Scripture 4 today: “Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: This idea of offering each part of yourself is pretty significant for us. What we are looking at, what we eat and drink, what we are building with our hands, what we are reading, where we are going, all of it. And how does that work? It is all about deciding and now allowing the environment to seduce us and deciding for us. Deciding is almost an unnatural act, which is why most people are so bad at it. But bring transformed gives you the power to do that and keep doing that…

This last day of our focus on habits of holiness looked at the discipline needed to reach the world…

Devotional Point 4 today: Our lives are the outcome of these daily decisions…

Scripture 4 today: “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭9:25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: most of the western Christianity has severely misunderstood this passage. Of course we need strong disciplines to prevail as disciples of Jesus. However an even greater discipline is required to reach the world we live in every day. It is very easy for us to retreat to our enclaves, but that is not God’s plan. The daily discipline and intentional focus required to reach our neighbours and our world is much bigger…

I really hope you have enjoyed this last week looking at the habits of holiness, we will be looking more at these habits in a few weeks. In the next week we will be spending some focused on 7 days with one of the greatest Theologians of our time, AW Tozer…
