A shift of new water crews is working on site this morning, relieving the overnight crews for the transmission water main break at Fifth and Monroe streets in downtown Springfield. The break in the 24-inch main was 12 feet long and crews will be replacing 20 feet of main, so there is significant work ahead.

The city is sending building and electrical inspectors to area businesses to assist with assessment for safety and restoration efforts, as power remains off to 51 locations. Customers impacted by the power outage include those on the south side of Monroe Street to the north side of Capitol Avenue and along Third, Fourth and Fifth streets on the same block.
