Today’s Monday Mason is Brother Paul Conner from Harrisonville Lodge No. 411. Bro. Conner is a Sales Director, Family Man, Gregarious, and a Proud Freemason.

What does the Grand Master’s theme mean to me?

Most Worshipful Brother Shawn A. Johnson chose “Committed to the Craft” as the theme for his 2025–2026 term. It is a call for Ohio Masons to deepen their connection to Freemasonry, live its tenets of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth, and put those principles into visible service within their lodges and communities. My interpretation of this call to action is as simple as it gets: the Grand Master is asking all Ohio Masons to “not just talk about it, be about it.”

We are united as Free and Accepted Masons not simply by our knowledge of ritual work, but even more by how we impart our principles into the world around us. We must be the change we desire to see, not only in our lodges, but also in our homes and communities. We should lead by example and remember that humility does not mean we cannot share the good we do. If we do not live as upright Masons in a way that is visible to our Brothers and our community, how will we inspire others to do the same?

Born on October 10, 1848, Sir Thomas Lipton rose from humble beginnings to become one of the world's most recognized entrepreneurs and the creator of the iconic Lipton Tea brand. Through hard work, innovation, and determination, he transformed a small grocery business into a global enterprise that made quality tea affordable for everyday people.

Beyond his remarkable business success, Sir Thomas Lipton was also a proud and enthusiastic Freemason. He was initiated into Lodge Scotia No. 178 in Glasgow on May 31, 1870, and remained closely connected to the Craft throughout his life. His dedication to Freemasonry reflected the values he demonstrated in business and philanthropy: integrity, perseverance, and service to others.

Known for his generosity, optimism, and entrepreneurial spirit, Sir Thomas Lipton left a legacy that extends far beyond tea. His life remains an inspiring example of what can be achieved through vision, hard work, and a commitment to helping others.

What would you say to someone who is looking to join Ohio Freemasonry?

Masonry is about making a better man better. I would also tell them that you will get out of it what you put into it AND it is a life time journey of learning and helping others. Finally, I would share that there is also a key relationship with the local community through community service projects. For example, one of the projects Morning Dawn Lodge No. 7 supports is a local food pantry.

On October 2, 1895, William “Bud” Abbott was born. Best known as the straight man in the legendary Abbott and Costello comedy duo, Abbott became one of the most recognizable figures in American entertainment.

Beyond the stage and screen, Abbott was also a Freemason and a member of Daylight Lodge No. 525 in Michigan.

His career brought laughter to generations of Americans, while his Masonic journey connected him to a tradition built on brotherhood, character and service.

Happy Birthday, Brother Bud Abbott.

What was it about Freemasonry that made you want to join?

Fielding Lodge No. 192 took part in the Heritage Day Parade in South Charleston, Ohio, bringing their Lodge and the Masonic tradition out into the community.

Parades are just one way Ohio Lodges connect with the people around them. From community events and fundraisers to service projects and local traditions, every Lodge has its own way of making a difference.
