Today’s Monday Mason is Brother Brian Young from Stonecutter Lodge No. 802. Bro. Young is a Restaurateur, Husband, Father and Proud Freemason.
How has your family benefited from your involvement in the Masonic fraternity?
Before I petitioned Stonecutter Lodge No. 802, hard work had stopped being a virtue and had become my vice. As a chef and butcher, I was hyper-focused on my career, and I told myself the long hours were for my family. In reality I was coming home too tired and too irritable to be a loving husband, a present and patient father, or even a reliable friend. Freemasonry gave me the working tools to actually examine my relationship to work. It taught me to divide my time on purpose - for work, for family, and for actual rest; instead of letting work take it all. I made a huge change. I’m more intentional now, and the difference at home is real. I’m calmer, I listen better, and I show up. My wife and kids would tell you the same, and they’d also tell you that becoming a Mason is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Freemasonry isn’t magic, it didn’t give me more hours in the day; but it did teach me how to use the ones I have.
