On June 3rd, Argentina celebrated the Day of the Italian Immigrant — a tribute to the millions of Italians who crossed the Atlantic in search of opportunity, dignity, and a new beginning.

From the late 1800s through the early 20th century, Italian families became one of the most influential communities in Argentina, shaping its language, cuisine, music, and national identity. Today, nearly half of all Argentines have Italian roots.

As the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, we honor their courage, their sacrifices, and the enduring legacy of Italian culture across the world.
Our story is global. Our heritage lives everywhere.

❤️ HONOR A LOVED ONE AT THE ITALIAN FEAST ❤️

Keep the memory of a family member or friend alive with an In Memoriam Banner displayed during the 2026 Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Italian Feast.

These beautiful memorial banners will be prominently displayed throughout the Feast grounds, allowing thousands of visitors to honor and remember those who helped shape our families, our neighborhood, and our community.

Whether it is a parent, grandparent, spouse, sibling, veteran, or dear friend, an In Memoriam Banner is a meaningful way to celebrate their life and ensure their memory continues to be part of our Little Italy tradition.

All proceeds directly benefit the Italian Feast and support the ongoing work of the Springfield Sons & Daughters of Italy. Through your support, we are able to promote, build, and preserve our Italian culture, traditions, heritage, faith, and community for future generations.

🇮🇹 Never Forgotten. Forever Part of Our Community.

🇮🇹☕ The Coffees of Italy

Italian coffee isn’t just a drink — it’s a ritual, a rhythm, a piece of daily culture passed down through generations.
From the quick espresso at the bar to the leisurely cappuccino in the morning, each cup tells a story of tradition and taste.

Espresso. Ristretto. Lungo. Macchiato. Cappuccino. Caffè Latte. Marocchino. Caffè Corretto. Shakerato.
Each one reflects Italy’s regional flair and timeless love for coffee.

🇮🇹 A sip of heritage — a moment of connection.

June 2nd marks the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Italian Republic, which is the National Day of Italy called Festa della Repubblica. It commemorates the national referendum in which Italy had to choose between retaining the monarchy and becoming a republic.

The monarchy, led by King Umberto II, was regrettably tainted in many people's aways for being associated with fascism, even though it was the monarchy giving Italy a stable alternative government that allowed the country to escape division and occupation like Germany.

It was also the first time women were given the right to vote. The republic won 54% to 46%, with the North voting heavily for the Republic and the South for the Monarchy.

In Italy today, Republic Day is often celebrated by a massive military parade in Rome with the Frecce Tricolori and a huge flag draped over the Colosseum. The President lays a wreath to the tomb of the unknown soldier at the Vittoriano monument.

On this day, celebrate Italy - your culture, your heritage, your language.

Last evening, our club had the privilege of celebrating the 102nd birthday of one of the greatest men our community has ever known, Mario Fiore.

To many of us, Mario is more than our most senior member—he is an institution. For decades, he has been a constant presence in Springfield’s Italian community, dedicating his time, energy, and heart to preserving the traditions, values, and spirit that our immigrant ancestors brought to this city.

When we set out to establish a new chapter of the Sons & Daughters of Italy, Mario’s example was never far from our minds. We envisioned an organization that welcomed all Italians and Italian Americans, regardless of what region of Italy their families came from, and one that embraced both men and women as equal partners in preserving our heritage. Mario embodied that spirit of unity long before it was ever written into a mission statement.

A proud veteran of World War II and our Veteran of the Year in 2024, Mario answered the call to serve his country during one of history’s most defining moments. He returned home and continued a lifetime of service—not through headlines or recognition, but through quiet leadership, friendship, and an unwavering commitment to his community.

At 102 years old, Mario remains as sharp, engaging, and stylish as ever. He is always impeccably dressed, quick with a story, and carries himself with a level of dignity and class that seems increasingly rare today. He is the definition of a gentleman.

Mario represents a generation that built our neighborhoods, defended our nation, strengthened our churches, and laid the foundation upon which organizations like ours continue to thrive. We are honored to celebrate his remarkable life and grateful for the example he continues to set for all of us.

Happy 102nd Birthday, Mario. May God continue to bless you with good health, happiness, and many more years surrounded by those who love and admire you.

Buon Compleanno, Mario! 🇮🇹🎂

🇮🇹 I Promessi Sposi: The Novel That Shaped Modern Italy

Few works have left a deeper mark on Italian culture than Alessandro Manzoni’s I Promessi Sposi (1827). More than a love story, it is the novel that helped forge the modern Italian language and gave Italians a shared literary identity during the Risorgimento.

Set in 17th‑century Lombardy, the story of Renzo and Lucia blends faith, resilience, injustice, and hope—reflecting the struggles of ordinary Italians under foreign rule. Manzoni’s decision to rewrite the novel in the Tuscan‑Florentine dialect helped standardize Italian, making the book a cornerstone of national unity.

Today, I Promessi Sposi remains a symbol of Italy’s cultural heritage, moral imagination, and linguistic rebirth.

🇮🇹 “Questo matrimonio non s’ha da fare…” — the line every Italian knows.
