About its Founder/CEO/President Dr. Mecca

Reverend Dr. Marshall, affectionately known as "Dr. Mecca" is a Pastoral Christian Counselor and Life Coach with over 30 years of experience dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Her extensive background includes serving as a Court Appointed Advocate for abused and neglected children and working in shelters for women e

Christ called, and she answered! Under the mentorship of Bishop Rev. Dr. Olie Burton, she became a licensed minister in 2019 and an ordained reverend in 2021. With a deep commitment to spreading the gospel, she focuses on teaching and preaching God's Word. While she serves in the pulpit, she recognizes that her true assignment lies in connecting with those in the streets. Grounded in her Christian faith and fueled by a spirit of advocacy stemming from her own experiences with abuse, Dr. Mecca founded Unspoken Courageβ€”a christian counseling and coaching ministry aimed at giving voice to those silenced by life's harsh realities. Through life coaching, christian counseling, and advocacy, her mission is to empower survivors while helping them reclaim their lives and navigate their journeys toward emotional healing and restoration through spiritual counseling. To further her impactful work, she established Breaking Free to Be Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on educating and training communities to prevent and reduce instances of sexual assault and domestic violence, particularly in African American and faith-based communities. ✨🎢 GOSPEL GROUP SPOTLIGHT! 🎢✨

As we continue counting down to our 5th Anniversary Celebration of Feeding the Soul: Igniting the Spirit, we are excited to introduce another special part of this year's celebration!

Please help us welcome the amazing Gospel Group, Living In God's Presence (LIGP)! πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ’œ

This group is more than a collection of talented voices. They believe they were brought together through a prophetic word that answered a prayer. God ordained them to be a diverse group called to minister through singing and testimonial-style worship.

While each member is blessed to lead individually, there is something special that happens when they come together. Their purpose is simple yet powerful:

To worship. To minister. To harmonize. And ultimately, to lead souls to Christ for the Kingdom of God. πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸŽΆ

Their prayer and hope is that through their ministry, others will experience God's presence and discover His:

✨ Purpose
✨ Passion
✨ Power
✨ Peace that surpasses all understanding

Their favorite scripture says it best:

β€œServe the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.” β€” Psalm 100:2 πŸŽ΅πŸ™πŸ½

And THAT is exactly what we are looking forward to on October 4th!

Join us as we celebrate five years of Feeding the Soul: Igniting the Spirit and experience a powerful afternoon of reflection, celebration, fellowship, and worship.

Because this is more than music...

IT'S MINISTRY! πŸ’œπŸŽΆπŸ™ŒπŸ½

✨ PRAISE DANCER SPOTLIGHT: ANIYAH ✨

As we prepare to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Feeding the Soul: Igniting the Spirit, we are so excited to spotlight another beautiful part of our celebration! πŸ’œ

Please help us welcome Aniyah, who will bless us through the ministry of Praise Dance. πŸ™ŒπŸ½βœ¨

For Aniyah, praise dance is much more than movementβ€”it is an intimate form of worship.

She shares:

β€œPraise dance is a very intimate form of worship for me. It gives me a way to connect with God and express things that I sometimes can’t put into words.”

When she dances, Aniyah says she feels she can completely surrender and be vulnerable with God. It is not about how the dance looks, but about what she is giving to God through her worship. πŸ’œ

Praise dance also provides a space for her to release the things she may be carrying emotionallyβ€”and she loves knowing that God can use her worship to touch someone else.

And isn't that what ministry is all about? πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Using what God has placed within us, not simply for ourselves, but allowing Him to use it to minister to others.

Her favorite scripture, Deuteronomy 31:8, reminds us that the Lord goes before us and will never leave nor forsake us. ✨

Aniyah will bring her gift of worship to our Looking Back, Looking Forward celebration, and we cannot wait to experience what God will do through her ministry.

Because sometimes words are not enough...

Sometimes, you have to worship Him with everything within you. πŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ’œ

✨ CATERER SPOTLIGHT: MINISTER CHRISTINE β€œMAMA C” DAVIS ✨

Let me tell you something! πŸ˜‚ I have been trying to get Minister Christine Davis to cater Feeding the Soul: Igniting the Spirit since our very first event, and after five years… WE FINALLY GOT HER! πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸŽ‰πŸ’œ

And I couldn't be happier!

Her food is made with love, but what makes this even more special is that her heart posture is one of service. For Minister Christine, cooking isn't simply about preparing a mealβ€”it’s one of the ways she shows love.

When asked why she loves to cook, she shared:

"Growing up, we always had family dinners, and I remember the laughter that filtered throughout the house. So seeing people eat and enjoy my food makes me happy and is my way of showing my love." ❀️

And apparently, this love language is VERY well known in her family! πŸ˜‚ Her children and their friends affectionately call her β€œMama C” and even bought her a sign for her kitchen that says β€œMama C’s Kitchen” because… well, she's always cooking! πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ³πŸ˜‚

Her children, family, and friends still come home for family dinners at least twice a monthβ€”and I can only imagine the food and fellowship happening around that table!

So when you join us for our 5th Anniversary celebration, you're not just getting dinner.

You're getting a meal prepared by someone who believes food is an expression of love. πŸ’œ

And after waiting FIVE YEARS to make this happen, trust me… I am ready to eat! πŸ˜‚πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Help us welcome and celebrate our amazing caterer, Minister Christine β€œMama C” Davis! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ’œ

πŸ’œ **Pulling Back the Curtain Just a Little…** πŸ‘€

The work we do isn't always easy. Some of the conversations we have are difficult. Some of the issues we discuss are concerning. And sometimes, the things we hear remind us just how much work there is still to do.

But we keep showing up.

Because making our community more trauma-informed, educated, connected, and empowered is necessary work.

BUT… πŸ‘€

We also believe that the people doing the work deserve to **celebrate the work!** πŸŽ‰

So this year, we're pulling back the curtain and inviting YOU into the celebration.

At our **5th Anniversary of *Feeding the Soul: Igniting the Spirit***, you'll hear from the Community Coordinators behind our pillars. They'll share what we've been doing, what we've learned, where we've grown, and, most importantly, what's coming next!

New trainings.
New partnerships.
New programs.
New possibilities. ✨

So yes… we're going to talk about the work.

But we're also going to eat, laugh, fellowship, celebrate, and have a little fun while we're doing it! πŸ˜‚πŸ’œ

Come celebrate with us. You might just learn something, be inspired, meet some amazing people… and have a REALLY good time while you're at it! πŸ˜‰

πŸŒŽπŸ’œ TRAUMA IS MORE COMMON THAN WE THINK.

When we hear the word trauma, many of us immediately think about a catastrophic event.

But trauma can result from many different experiencesβ€”and its impact isn't always visible.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 70% of people globally will experience a potentially traumatic event during their lifetime.

And here in the United States, research has found that trauma exposure is also widespread. About 62% of U.S. adolescents reported experiencing at least one potentially traumatic event in a national study.

Think about that for a moment.

Trauma may be sitting beside us at work.
It may be in our classrooms.
It may be in our churches.
It may be in our healthcare systems.
It may be in the person sitting across from us asking for help.

And sometimes, we may never know.

That's why trauma-informed care matters.

Being trauma-informed doesn't mean assuming everyone has experienced trauma. It means recognizing that trauma is common, understanding that it can affect people in very different ways, and responding in ways that promote safety, dignity, trust, and compassion.

πŸ’œ Trauma isn't always visible. Understanding begins with awareness.

This is exactly why I'm so passionate about the upcoming training:

Understanding Sexual Assault and Related Trauma: A Trauma-Informed Approach to Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention

Come learn with us. Come ask questions. Come grow.

Most importantly, come learn how we can respond to people with greater understanding and less judgment.

Because we may never know what someone is carryingβ€”but we can choose how we respond to them. πŸ’œ

Please share this with a colleague, organization, or helping professional who needs to be part of this conversation.

Training will cover trauma informed responses to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and related trauma.

Did You Know?

Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men report experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or sexual assault during their lifetime.

Think about that for a moment.

These are not just statistics.
They represent our family members.
Our friends.
Our coworkers.
Our neighbors.
Our church members.
Our students.
Our clients.

Many survivors never tell anyone what happened. Instead, they carry the emotional, psychological, and physical impact of trauma in silenceβ€”often while continuing to show up for work, care for their families, and navigate everyday life.

As helping professionals, leaders, educators, healthcare providers, clergy, advocates, and community members, we have an opportunity to create environments where survivors are met with compassion, dignity, and understanding.

That is why this training matters.

πŸ“… Join me on Saturday, August 22, 2026, for an interactive, trauma-informed training:

Understanding Sexual Assault and Related Trauma: A Trauma-Informed Approach to Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention

Together, we'll learn practical strategies to:
πŸ’œ Recognize the impact of trauma
πŸ’œ Respond with trauma-informed communication
πŸ’œ Reduce retraumatization
πŸ’œ Build emotionally safe workplaces and organizations
πŸ’œ Better support survivors while also caring for ourselves as helping professionals

Knowledge has the power to change conversations.
Compassion has the power to change lives.

Let's be part of the solution.
