On the two year anniversary of the Afghan refugee evacuation with the fall of Afghanistan, Global Shout has been featured in a short documentary in the Washington Post , discussing our efforts to help settle refugees, and featuring our Executive Director Ali Karim, COO Farid Noori, and his activist uncle, Mohibullah Noori, as we discuss the latter's struggles and uncertain asylum status. Over 19,000 Afghan refugee asylum cases are still pending today, as the Afghan Adjustment Act proposed legislation to expedite their processing has still not been passed by congress, preventing the refugees from having a secure home in the United States and reuniting with the loved ones they left behind in the danger of Taliban-led Afghanistan.

Today marks the one year anniversary of the fall of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021 to the Taliban; a sad day for all Afghans.

Our own Mohibullah Noori remembered his nation and his struggle over the past year today by walking 6 miles from home to deliver a 6 point message of protest and resistance in front of the White House.

His requests from President Biden:

1. Terminate the Doha Agreement

2. Non recognition of the Taliban by the international community

3. International support for democracy in Afghanistan

4. International pressure on the Taliban to return to the peace process for a Government of Peace

5. Formation and deployment of a regional peacekeeping force

6. UN Security Council assurance of Afghanistan neutrality to prevent Ukrainization

We will continue our work at Global Shout in support of the over 2500 refugees in Northern Virginia, Maryland, DC, and 43 other states we are serving. But we have not forgotten our brothers and sisters that were left behind. May Allah be with them.

Happy and happy !

Our team at Global Shout has been spending the past three weeks registering nearly 100 of our Afghan refugee beneficaries for our upcoming 8 in-person English classes around the Northern Virginia metropolitan area, up from 2 in the spring! In partnership with the Literary Council of Northern Virginia, we are funding all of their education for beginner, intermediate, and advanced English classes, that will lead to next level classes in the Fall, as well as better job and educational opportunities down the road to help them avoid food and housing insecurity as government funding dwindles further as their plight garners less and less national attention.

We believe education is the key, and are putting our money where our mouth is. The marathon of refugee life needs the continued support of many, and we promise to leave no man or woman behind. We have faith in the abilities of all our students and wish them good luck in their first ever summer school!

Tickets are $25 and pay for your meal - the final iftar of Ramadan at sundown- while you visit with some of the 1000+ Afghan refugees we have been helping resettle across the area for the past few months. There will be music, sports, games, and social services for the refugees as well.
