One of our core goals is to be able to provide consistent employment for the young men and women. Many of our youth grow up misguided, desperate, trying to make money to help parents with bills, buy food or clothes. In that process, they make bad decisions.

If only we could provide employment to avoid the youth feeling desperate, making rash decisions. Well, I have two young men reach out in the last two days stating they want to find work. If anyone knows of anyone looking for good workers, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

*If you could, share this to spread the word

It only takes one person to speak against injustice, before others start to follow.

The goal of Brake the Cycle is to be the voice for those who are taken advantage of. Those who don’t know their worth. We will do the best we can to build our youth up.

Transparent moment. My son got a little nervous when they put the glasses on him and covered his nose with the laughing gas. I reassured him, it won’t hurt, he calmed down right away. It’s nothing big but it was good to be there.

Here’s the problem. So many kids (including myself) never get that reassurance smh. My dads father passed the year I was born, I have seen my moms dad twice and I don’t have a relationship with my dad other than talking every now and then. I had a terrible example of what it means to be a dad. Never, not once has my dad ever came to any event other than a few basketball games. I was forced to deal with everything alone. Sometimes I get angry thinking about the fact that I have never had any real relationship with any of the men in my family, then I’m the oldest so I don’t even have a big brother to follow. I have to force myself to snap out of it and focus that much more on being the dad I never had for my boys. There’s no way I can allow them to feel this anger of not having any guidance from a man! This is one of personal cycles I had to break.

Why would kids spend so many hours, days, weeks, months, years in a crowded gym? Basketball is a complicated sport to master. Athletes big, small, fast, strong from every background you can imagine fill the court. Not to mention the pressure of playing in front of thousands of people watching your every move.

Well…. In one word, hope! Hope you can be successful. Be liked. Gain the approval of the crowd. Maybe even get a compliment from your parents. Where I’m from, a lot of us came from broken homes and this is our escape! The place we let out all of our frustrations. We get a chance to compete. And without noticing, we forget about our problems while on the court.

These are just some of the reasons we crowd the gym. And it’s one way to Brake negative cycles!

Now that we are officially open, let’s get to work! If you are willing and able, we could use help with backpacks, school clothes and haircuts! I will be donating myself. If you feel more comfortable giving to the family directly, I will make the connection. The goal is to help ten families. Anyone willing to help can inbox me directly. Thank you.
