Today was Bring Your Kids To Work Day. We demonstrated vehicle extraction, flowing water with an 1 3/4" hose line, hauling a stokes basket with a 3:1 mechanical advantage, and finished the day with pizza for lunch! A great time was had by all.

Congratulations on 150 years of excellence!

🔥 150 Years of Service 🔥
Millburn Fire Department | 1876–2026

Today marks a historic milestone—150 years of service to the Millburn community.

On April 21, 1876, just ten residents came together to form Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. With little more than a hand-pulled hose reel and determination, they built the foundation of a tradition that still stands strong today.

As the township grew, so did the need for organized fire protection. By the late 1800s, additional volunteer companies formed in Short Hills and the Wyoming section. In 1912, those companies unified under township control creating a more coordinated, efficient department capable of serving the entire community.

Over the years, the department evolved from hand-drawn carts to horse-drawn apparatus, and eventually to modern fire engines and specialized equipment. It also transitioned from a volunteer-based system to a fully career-staffed department, expanding its capabilities to meet the growing and changing demands of the job.

Today, the Millburn Fire Department serves approximately 20,000 residents across 10 square miles and responds to roughly 2,000 calls annually. Staffed by highly trained career firefighters—many cross-trained as EMTs—the department operates as an all-hazards emergency response agency.

Our training and capabilities include:

đźš’ Structural, vehicle, and brush fire suppression
đźš‘ Emergency medical response (BLS)
🛠️ Technical rescue (confined space, trench, collapse, and rope rescue)
🌊 Water and ice rescue
⚠️ Hazardous materials response (operations level and support)
🔍 Search and rescue operations
🏢 High-rise firefighting
🔥 Fire prevention, inspections, and public education

In addition to protecting our own community, the Millburn Fire Department proudly provides mutual aid to surrounding towns and works closely with regional partners on large-scale incidents and specialized responses. This collaboration strengthens emergency response across the area and ensures help is always available when it’s needed most.

From bucket brigades to advanced rescue operations, one thing has never changed—an unwavering commitment to protecting life, property, and the community.

As we celebrate 150 years, we honor the generations of firefighters who have answered the call—and those who continue to serve today with dedication, professionalism, and pride.

Here’s to 150 years of service—and many more to come. 🚒

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our sister, Firefighter Ayishia Williams — a hero, a servant, and a true embodiment of what it means to serve the City of Camden.
Ayishia dedicated her life to helping others. From her service as a Corrections Officer to answering the call as a Camden City Firefighter, she carried herself with strength, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her community.
Even in the face of illness, Ayishia continued to serve. She never stopped showing up. She remained active in her community, a proud member of BUFF, continuing to volunteer, give back, and uplift others while quietly fighting her own battle. That kind of strength, love, and selflessness speaks volumes about the woman she was.
She was more than a firefighter — she was our sister. She was family.
Her legacy is one of true service, sacrifice, and resilience. As we grieve this tremendous loss, we also recognize the impact she made on this Department and the City she so proudly served.
We owe it to Ayishia to carry that legacy forward — to support one another, to stand together, and to continue serving our community with the same dedication she showed every single day.
Please keep her family, loved ones, and all members of the Camden City Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Rest in Peace, Firefighter Ayishia Williams. We will take it from here. 🕊️❤️‍🔥🙏🏽
