The Department of Education has made it official: the 2020 Title IX rules are back. These rules make it harder for students who experience sexual harassment or assault to get help, and they let schools wait longer to act. The change also removes clear protections for LGBTQ+ and pregnant students.

Schools don't have to wait for Washington to do the right thing. AAUW calls on every school, from K-12 through college, to:
✔️Make support easy to find
✔️Respond quickly when a student reports
✔️Keep students in class and on track

And we call on Congress to hold schools accountable and strengthen federal civil rights enforcement.

AAUW mourns the passing of Gloria Steinem, a pioneering journalist, activist, and champion for women’s equality.
A leader in the movement for gender equity, Steinem helped advance many of the issues that remain central to AAUW’s mission today. In 2003, AAUW honored her with the AAUW Achievement Award, recognizing her lasting impact and extraordinary contributions to advancing women and girls.
We honor her remarkable legacy and remain committed to carrying the work for equality forward.

AAUW condemns the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais — a ruling that undermines fair representation and weakens protections against the dilution of Black voting power.
As our CEO Gloria L. Blackwell emphasizes, when communities are shut out of the democratic process, women and families lose ground on the issues that matter most — from public education to equal pay to civil rights protections.
Congress must act to protect voting rights and ensure every voice is heard.
