Happy New Year from your Route 66 Cruisers Ambucs Chapter!!

With 2025 upon us, allow us to reintroduce ourselves and what we do.

Ambucs is about inspiring people to conquer challenges related to mobility and independence, through a nationwide network of volunteer chapters, working in partnership with physical, occupational and speech therapists; by providing Amtryke adaptive trykes, scholarships for therapists and many forms of community service.

Currently, there are around 5,000 AMBUCS members spread throughout 157 chapters in more than 36 states – and we’re growing!

The Route 66 Cruisers work to inspire mobility and independence around Springfield Missouri through providing accessible trykes and assisting with ramp builds.

If you are interested in joining our chapter, feel free to send us a message and we can get you more information!

Hello Facebook friends and family

My name is Trenton Clines, and I am the Treasurer of the Route 66 Cruisers Chapter of AMBUCS.

I was born and raised in Fulton, Missouri, where I spent as much time outside as I possibly could. This varied from playing baseball and football all day to jumping on the trampoline and riding bikes around the neighborhood. On the weekends, we would load up the camper, strap our bikes on the back, and take off to one of our many favorite campgrounds. Before our parents were even halfway through getting the camper set up, the kids would unstrap our bikes and start making our way around the campground. Those weekends were some of my favorite times, and my #24 Jeff Gordon bike was usually at the very center of it.

As I grew up, riding a bike had many different purposes for me. It went from one of my favorite ways to play outside, then to the transport vehicle to get me to the Gas Station to load up on snacks. When I got my license and had a new form of transport, the bike turned into a new mode of exercise (not nearly as fun).

I now work as a Retirement Consultant for Pension Consultants, Inc. in Springfield, Missouri, and although I don’t ride bikes nearly as much as I used to, I think back on those memories all the time. When I first heard about AMBUCS, I immediately knew that I wanted to be involved. Not only are the people within our chapter amazing, but the opportunity to help people gain the mobility to enjoy some of those same moments that I did, is amazing as well. I have seen in my own life, how the freedom that some added mobility from something as simple as a bike or a tricycle, can leave a lastly impact on those that might not have had those opportunities otherwise.

I am very excited to be a part of such a great organization, and I cannot what to see what the future holds for the Route 66 Cruisers Chapter!

Hello Facebook friends and family,

My name is Matt Kell and I am one of the founding members of the Route 66 Cruisers Chapter of AMBUCS and l'd like to share a little bit about myself and how I got involved in this great organization.

I was born and raised in El Cajon, California, a suburb twenty minutes outside of San Diego. My family had a four-acre farm where we had a dozen Llamas, dogs, turkeys, rabbits, snakes, and a large aviary with around a hundred birds. Our neighborhood was full of horse ranches where there was plenty of open spaces to ride on bikes, motorcycles, four wheelers, go carts, and scooters. That is where my love of mobility started. It was the eighties and I would go out in the morning and would not get home until dark. We all had so much fun cruising around on our bikes and getting into trouble (Just kidding Mom, we were angels). I couldn’t have imagined a world without my bike. That nightmare came true in 1993 when my parents decided we were moving to Missouri. Uprooting a thirteen year-old from sunny San Diego to a small town of two thousand in Missouri was not my idea of fun. The 250 acre land we moved to may have been good for the Llamas but it was all woods and had no flat surfaces to ride my bike. I was devastated.

Fast-forward to my fortieth birthday. I have an amazing wife that I have been with for almost fifteen years and a ten year-old daughter. My life has been very fortunate but I wasn’t really doing anything to help others. My wife has been involved with many charity organizations in the past and really wanted me to get involved with something. It was right around this time that a long-time friend, Lee Hart, reached out to me about starting up this chapter of AMBUCS. When I heard it was about helping people that don’t have the opportunity that I had to ride bikes and get out there, I knew I had to get involved. The rest is history and it’s been an amazing ride (pun intended) so far and I know it will continue to be.

I looked for pictures of myself as a child on my bike and they just do not exist. We didn't all have cameras with us 24/7 back then.
