Recently, I had the opportunity to meet a gentleman named Mike under circumstances that were not ideal for him, yet the timing proved to be fortuitous for both of us. Mike's truck, which he had purchased new 27 years ago, suffered a coolant hose failure, rendering it inoperable.
This development posed a significant problem for Mike and his wife Bonnie, who have shared 38 remarkable years of marriage.
During our conversation, while seeking a solution to his predicament, I discovered that Mike boasts an impressive military background. As an active-duty Navy Aviation Electrician's Mate from 1977 to 1984, he served in notable deployments, including VXE-6 Operation Deep Freeze Point Mugu, CA, and VF-142 out of Oceana, VA. Given his dedicated service to our nation, I felt compelled to reciprocate his
selflessness.
Thanks to the support we've received over the years, we were able to arrange for his truck to be towed to a repair shop, where it was subsequently fixed and returned to Mike and his wife. Their gratitude was palpable, and their astonishment at our willingness to help without expectation of reward serves as a poignant reminder of the value of our endeavors.
Side note. If you see Mike and Bonnie out and about I hear she has some of the best tomatoes in her garden!
