Faith formation in summer doesn't need a program, it needs a few small practices done with intention.

A gratitude walk at sunset, a meal where the kids are in charge, one act of kindness toward a neighbor and one question before bed.

Those are the kinds of things that stay with a child long after summer ends.

Jesus pointed to children as the example, not the audience, and if you've watched kids navigate a summer afternoon together, you know why.

They don't overthink belonging. They show up, they share the snacks and they're in. The challenge for church leaders isn't hosting more summer events.

It's helping families practice belonging in their everyday lives, and that starts with you having the language to name what community looks like outside your building.

Share this with a leader in your network who's thinking about this.

One question asked consistently over a summer can change the entire temperature of a family. How did you see, share or feel God's love today?

Not a devotional, not a structured sit-down, just a question on the porch after dinner or on the drive home from the pool.

It makes space for noticing, and noticing is where faith grows.

Try it this week and tag a parent you think would give it a go.

Summer has a way of slowing things down enough to notice what actually needs to grow, and sometimes that means unlearning the pressure to have all the answers.

Mary held the things she didn't understand close to her heart and kept going. Not with certainty, but with presence.

That's the model for parents too.

Save this for the week you need a reminder that not knowing is still part of the journey.

That random laugh on a summer drive that you didn't plan for, where everyone's stomach hurt from smiling, that wasn't a break from faith formation.

That was faith formation. The deep well of joy isn't found in a lesson plan. It's found in the car with the windows down, in the laughter you almost interrupted to check your phone.

Save this for the weeks when you forget that simple counts.

Most churches have a summer program for families, but very few have a summer culture.

The difference isn't a VBS budget or a packed calendar. It's the ability to name what's already happening on the road trip, around the bonfire, at the dinner table, and call it holy.

Fun and playfulness aren't extras in a child's faith formation. They're the soil, and summer is full of it.

Save this and share it with your team before your next family ministry meeting.

Faith is meant to be lived. That is the whole idea behind Threads Within's new parenting video series coming this summer, led by Karen DeBoer.

Six sessions. Practical tools. Built for families who want to close the gap between what they believe and how they actually live.

The series launches alongside three new Faith Threads resources on June 1.

Share this with a family that is ready to make this summer mean something.

A researcher once told Karen DeBoer to stop trying to overhaul her neighborhood and start by sharing a lawnmower.

That stuck, because most of us are waiting until we have the right season, the right capacity, the right plan.

Service as a faith practice does not wait for the perfect moment. It grows in the small ones.

Threads Within's new parenting video series launches this summer with exactly this kind of grounded, practical wisdom.

Save this and share it with a parent who is ready to start small.

One of the most common things parents say is that they want to raise kids who care about others but they do not know how to start.

This framework comes directly from Threads Within's parenting video series launching this summer, led by Karen DeBoer.

Practical, accessible and designed for families at every stage.

This is the kind of resource worth putting in your parents' hands before summer begins. Share this with your ministry team.
